Satan's day job.
The Great Overlord Satan and his generals want to claim Ente Isla for themselves. The one who tried to stop them is a Hero and his comrades. During the time they are powerless, Satan and his trusted general, Ansiel left Ente Isla to recuperate and promised to return one day. Problem is these two ended up in our world where magic is something that came straight from a fantasy novel! Can these two survive our world now that they are powerless?
The opening scene of this episode can give someone an impression that you are watching some straight shonen war anime that features a demon with a really deep voice and a hero that can make awesome war speeches. Well this scene only lasted for at least 5 minutes and it feels like they spend most of their budget for the episode just animating it! Though I am not complaining about it, but what if I am some guy who just happened to switch my TV to the channel where this show is playing, with no idea about the show's plot. I will end up getting disappointed if those glorious 5 minutes of gore end up is a just a premise about Satan working in a fast food restaurant! Yep, this is what this show is all about, Satan working in a fast food restaurant.
For some reason, the fact that Satan is working in a fast food restaurant makes a lot of sense outside from the TV show. I mean, eating fast food daily can cause health problems in the long run, especially with the fries. I got to admit, I love French Fries but the fact that they keep on using the same oil for all of their orders of fries has bad benefits to someone's body. Add Satan to the picture, you can now imagine why eating too much fast food is bad for you. With that in mind, you still want to eat fast food because it taste so good and you don't need to cook any of it! Whoever writes this stuff deserves a medal.
Anyway, how the heck Satan ended up working in a fast food restaurant? To sum up what happened during the time they are still new in our world, basically they gathered data on how this world works. During that process, Satan used some of his powers to gather the necessary data. In his conclusion, in order to survive in this world, money is needed. In short, they need to have jobs, after they were able to do the necessary requirements for a residency in Tokyo. It is also during those times we see Satan in his prime form, his human form without any influence of humanity whatsoever.
To cut long story short, as time went on, while Ansiel (now known as Ashiya) is busy finding clues on how they can gain their powers back while they are in the real world, Satan (now known as Maou) is working in a fast food restaurant and starts to act more... human. The menacing Satan that we are introduced a few minutes ago is now this hard working adult with the usual fast food smile and "do you want fries with that attitude". Did I mention that in his spare time, he reads manga?
Even if that is the case, Satan is still Satan from top to bottom. It seems that he will use this job as his means to climb up on top of the human work force so that someday, he can be this world's Overlord! Umm, if that is the job he decided to take, it will take him more than this life time just to achieve it, unless he is lucky enough to become on top of the fast food restaurant chain business for just 3 to 6 years! Anyway, most of the scenes set in the fast food restaurant showed us his dedication, and his dedication is quite something for an Overlord.
The episode ends when he once again meets the girl he met earlier in the episode. As it turns out, this girl is the hero that he fought in Ente Isla! She is now in our world to hunt down Satan! Well at least things are now interesting with the introduction of the hero of this unnamed hero. One final thing, I can't help but notice that Ansiel evolved from Satan's loyal servant into his baby sitter and to some extent, his mother. Considering their current circumstances, I guess it makes sense that Ansiel changed into that kind of character.
P.S. I just love that Ente Isla has their own language and that Satan and Ansiel still uses it in our world from time to time.
