Zyuranger Cast to Make a Special Announcement Soon

Reiko Chiba, best known for her role as Ptera Ranger Mei in Kyouryu Sentai Zyuranger tweeted something related to the said show.

This is what she tweeted:

To all of the fans of Toei's tokusatsu and Sentai productions, the five of us who starred in Zyuranger will be able to announce something interesting very soon.

The bigger question is what is this something interested related to the five Zyurangers that they will announce? Last year marks the 20th anniversary of show, in short, most fans are kinda expecting that this announcement is a Zyuranger 20 YEARS AFTER V-Cinema. But don't get your hopes up, most of the cast members of the show are now retired from acting.

Ninja Sentai Kakuranger 23 – Tsubasamaru Takes Flight

That not CGI robot bird.

Tsuruhime has just turned 16 and what better way to celebrate it with friends is by fighting some Yokai and saving some kids! Meanwhile, Prince Junior is now performing a ceremony to revive his boss, the Infernal King.

Like I said in my intro, the episode confirmed Tsuruhime's current age, that she started leading the team at the age of 15. For a 15 year old, that is quite an accomplishment. Granted that there are times Sasuke is leading the team, but for most part it's Tsuruhime who is calling the shots and the one who is keeping her teammates in check. Speaking of teammates, they also received these promise bracelets from Tsuruhime that they will continue on fighting together as a team. Wow, even if today is Tsuruhime's birthday, she is the one who is giving the gifts.

As for the Yokai, Junior is now being bothered by the Infernal King about his revival. What's great about Infernal King's first appearance is that they never showed us his face. They only lighted some parts of his features, giving him this kind of eerie and creepy look. In addition to that is how they highlighted his eyes, which makes him scarier. The bigger question is what is the episode that will mark his official debut since hey, this episode is focused on the ceremony of his revival so when we will see his proper debut?

Because the name of this villain is the Infernal King, it kinda makes sense that they need some human sacrifices for his revival and in this case, we have kids as sacrifices. This kinda reminded me of Zyuranger's Great Satan, except a bit more brutal. Compared to Great Satan who only needs 13 kids, Infernal King needs as many kids as possible for the human sacrifices needed for his revival. With that in mind, I am expecting a lot of great things from him. I mean seriously, if you need a lot of human sacrifices just for a villain revival, it can only mean that the show is getting closer to its end game.

Because of this, Junior didn't waste any time to start the ceremonial ritual for Infernal King's revival. The ceremony is basically a rock concert... an evil rock concert. It's really fun watching Junior having a lot of fun while the Kakurangers are busy fighting the Yokai assigned for this task of gathering the kids. Since this is an evil rock concert meant to revive the Infernal King, I can't help but notice the amount of symbolism used in the concert. The only thing missing is to throw some blood or Junior drinking some blood like most death metal concerts does. He flipped the bird in one episode and it passed the censors, so why not have a blood drinking scene? Oh well, it will be a bit too over the top for the show.

As for our heroes, they are struggling to defeat the enemy and to make matters worse; they can't beat it even with the Muteki Shogun when it decided to enlarge itself! Oh and he almost killed the show's narrator in one his attacks, making him more despicable for a MOTW. I mean, why attack the most dedicated narrator in the history of Super Sentai who even watches the fight outside of his usual narrating area? With all hope lost after seeing the power of the Yokai, a new mecha appears in the form of Tsubasamaru.

Tsubasamaru's debut is amazing, I just love that in an era where CGI is not widely used, Tsubasamaru's animation is really well made. The flapping of its wings looks realistic and as for its moves, I just love that the wings shoot some bullets instead of having a typical bird cry attack. Sandayuu also returns in this episode as he puts emphasis that Tsubasamaru and Muteki Shogun are sentient beings.

We also see Tsubasamaru and Muteki Shogun combine to form the Super Muteki Shogun. The combination looks simple but does the job of destroying the Yokai. My only disappointment with it is that they still use the same effects for Tsubasamaru's regular attacks just with more lights. Guess I was expecting too much that the finisher is one powerful laser beam attack. Oh and one more thing, I can't help but notice that in one shot, Tsubasamaru is smaller than Muteki Shogun and that its wings are not big enough to make the combination. Guess they don't have the right model for this scene.

After our heroes defeated the Yokai, Prince Junior appears in front of our heroes and with Sandayuu around; we learned that his true name is Gashadokuro. But who cares about his true name, what's more important is that the seal from the first episode is now in the city and that they only have a month for them to stop it from opening. If they can't stop it, it will mark the rise of the Infernal King.

This is when I realize something, the Infernal King kinder compared to Great Satan. Great Satan only needs 13 kids and he is revived in just one episode, in Infernal King's case, he needs a lot of kids but it will take a month for his revival, giving our heroes more time to prepare once he is out of the seal and save the kids in the process. But the bigger question is what's the reason behind Sandayuu's recent appearance? Also, why is Tsubasamaru helping them right now?

Ninja Sentai Kakuranger 22 – One Gassy Villain

Badass exit? Badass exit.

In this episode, Seikai is smitten to some chick whose interest is creating the perfect solar car. Meanwhile, the monster of the episode is using a laughing gas in his plan to destroy mankind. Did I mention that this monster is made of exhaust coming from cars?

So let me get this straight, we have a monster that is created from car exhaust and can release various kinds of gas that will change the mood of those who inhale it? Am I watching an episode of Carranger before Carranger was made?! Apparently, it's kinda like since according to the notes released by GUIS about this episode, some Toei producers back then like to practice their plans for a future show by testing it on one episode. And to be honest, it kinda worked.

It worked in a sense that the car-related stuff is related to the mythology of the Yokai, making the modernize version of the Yokai worked. Its choice of attack works since he is a gas monster. The only part of the gas attack plot that didn't work for me is that for most part of the episode, he keeps using the laughing gas much. I know it's on the title of the episode but the monster didn't use the emotional gas attack in its full potential. But hey, at least it leads to some fun comedy scenes and comparing his way of laughing gas attack to the Joker less the creepy smile after his victims are done laughing too much.

Now for Seikai in this episode, he is simply fantastic. Aside from the occasional flirting with the chick and win her heart, I just love that the reason why he is doing it is for him to cheer up the girl after the failures she had with the solar car. The fact that he actually asked Nekomaru to make the girl think that he is powered by solar power just to make her smile is kinda sweet of him. Since solar powered cars are the exact opposite of gasoline powered cars, the MOTW obviously wants to destroy the solar panels of the "solar" car! This scene basically showed us why Seikai is such a badass that he protected the girl and the kids without transforming.

Even though he received a lot of bruises thanks to the beating he received from the MOTW, he keeps on fighting and even have this badass farewell speech... till he ruined it with the exit. Typical Kakuranger humor and that's why I like it. The scene still reminded us that even though he is badass in this scene, he is still one of those goofballs. As for his proper solo fight in this episode, it is really great. What I like about it is that he even inspired the girl and the kids to create an invention that can help him defeat the Yokai.

In true Kakuranger fashion, the weapon is kinda goofy, but it works. Like I said countless times in my other reviews, I don't care if the way they defeat the monster is goofy or the design of the item is goofy just as long as it works. I will not say what is the item but just seeing it in action kinda reminded me of Ghostbusters... except the item is just sucking the ghost and not destroying it, kinda like how Danny Phantom's thermos works. Since they are dealing with a smoke monster, it's kinda expected that it will grow in size. In short, it is time for the giant battle!

The giant battle is kinda interesting, it's interesting in a sense that they still remembered that the Muteki Shogun is a sentient mecha and probably capable of displaying emotion. As seen in the episode, it can cry and it can laugh and thanks to those attacks, our heroes ended up back to their normal sizes. As expected, the girl and the kids again save the day thanks to their new machine. If there is one thing that bothered me about it is how the heck they were able to come up with such machines? But since these guys are building solar powered cars in an early age, I guess it kinda makes sense why they can make such machines.

Thanks to the machine, the Yokai is now solid enough for them to finish it with the mecha version of their Kakuranger Ball. Comparing this version of Kakuranger Ball to the regular one, there are major differences except that they are now in the Juusho Fighters performing this move. So yeah, even though this is a Seikai episode, the one who performs the final kick is Sasuke. Speaking of Sasuke, he acts more of a field leader in this episode, sidelining Tsuruhime and thus making her that female hero in this episode. Speaking of sidelined characters, Prince Junior is not in this episode and his harem of cat ninjas! Oh well, the preview hints that Junior will play a major role next episode.

At the end of the episode, Seikai is again flirting with the girl, the solar powered car is fixed and last but definitely not least, Seikai needs to keep the eyes on the road first and not on the chick. This kid seriously needs to learn traffic safety.
