Attack on Titan 02 – Survival

The Titans continue their attack and Eren and Mikasa are forced to run away. Can the humans stop the attack of the Titans? Will Wall Maria be breached by these monsters?

The episode revealed that the Titans just appeared out of nowhere and they just devoured humans like candy. So the survivors build three walls to protect them from these creatures. The sad thing about it is that the outermost wall of Wall Maria was made to lure the Titans in so that the remaining humans will not spend a lot when it comes to wall maintenance. This just shows that humans can become this low just to save everyone, or what is their idea for everyone.

What makes this episode really depressing is the site of humans being eaten by the Titans and that Eren can't do anything about it. He is forced to run away, and in case he will fight these monsters, how can he fight them if he is this weak. To put it simply, Eren remembers that he is still human. As for the Titans, aside that most of them are eating humans like how babies bite their toys, we also learned that there are Titans who actually wear article of clothing, and in this case, we have an armored Titan that rammed the wall causing a lot of residents inside Wall Maria to die. Considering the damage they did and the number of off screen deaths, and how the government decide to fall back to the next wall, humanity is hopeless fighting these monsters.

As refuges, Eren, Mikasa and Armin have no choice but to survive if they want to see another day. To make matters worse, their arrival; created a shortage in the area. It makes sense that the soldiers are complaining why they have to feed these refugees, especially they look like people who hasn't seen a single Titan in their life. That is why I just love how Eren fight one of the soldiers, he knows that they should be grateful for the food they received but the soldiers here didn't understand the situation the refugees are in right now.

Because of the said shortage, it makes sense that the government will sneakily make an order that all people who are old enough to fight must fight the Titans. Because they don't have any training, it is obvious that the government just send them to the battlefield just to be eaten by the Titans. It's brutal and really inhuman, but for them to finish this problem, the humans should make an effort to fight back and retrieve Wall Maria... or be eaten by the Titans. Both solutions work for the benefit of the government who wants to solve this problem of shortage.

After the death of Armin's only living relative thanks to the Titans, Eren, Mikasa and Armin decide to join the military. Well in Mikasa's case, the reason why she joined the military is because she wants to protect Eren, but hey, at least she is part of it! And so, a few years later, the training of the three begins. Will these three the hope of humanity's survival or will end up becoming fattened cattle for the Titans?
