Shunya Shiraishi & Souta Fukushi Hyper Hobby Interview for Movie Wars Ultimatum

Hyper Hobby magazine recently had an interview with Shunya Shirashi and Souta Fukushi, the two lead stars of the upcoming Kamen Rider x Kamen Rider Wizard & Fourze: Movie Wars Ultimatum. The movie opens this December 8.

Hyper Hobby (HH): The first time you two met was on the 'Everyone, It's Space Time!' set, wasn't it?
Souta Fukushi (SF): Yup!
Shunya Shirashi (SS): We shot a very short scene together and then we met up in ADR room to record our lines a while later.

HH: What was your first impression of each other then?
SS: He really seemed like Gentaro in real life too.
SF: I did? I guess that's kind of true. (laughs)
SS: You were also really cheerful and a bit loud.
SF: I thought Shiraishi was really cool. Although we didn’t get the chance to talk that much back then.
SS: Our filming schedules weren't the same for this movie either, so we barely met this time too.

HH: But the two of you seem to get along.
SS: I guess so. We both have it easy to communicate.
SF: Which is kinda strange, seeing how you are older than me.
SS: But you're just like Gentaro, befriending everyone.
SF: That's probably true. (laughs) Kamen Rider does feel like a family after all.
SS: I could see how close you all got after working on Kamen Rider for a year. I felt like a third wheel when we were working with Sakamoto. (laughs)
SF: We hadn't seen each other for a while. After the final episode, Sakamoto told me he'd direct this movie and I just had to come back for him.
SS: He was really awkward with the Wizard cast though. (laughs) He used super formal language with us.
SF: Really? (laughs)
SS: But when you arrived, he became all happy. I thought it was pretty cool, the entire atmosphere changed when the director and main character got together.
SF: That's probably the result of working together on Fourze.

HH: But weren't you a bit like Mr. Shiraishi when you appeared on OOO's set together with Shu Watanabe? You’ve also previously mentioned that you're actually a very shy person. You were working with an older actor back then too.
SF: Hahaha, yeah... I'm actually very shy.
SS: Really!? I'm sorry, I never noticed that! (laughs) You seemed so much like Gentaro when I talked to you off the set.
SF: Acting as the character must have rubbed of on me.

HH: How do you two usually talk in general?
SF: We use relatively formal speech. We still don't call each other with our first names. (laughs)
SS: We haven’t even had the time to go to lunch together!

HH: But you still get along fairly well and natural, don't you?
SF: Of course, the photos we just took for the interview photo shoot was pretty much just the two of us playing around as friends when we had to pose.
SS: Haha, yeah~ We weren’t like that when we were filming together the first time.

HH: How many times were you two on the same set at the same time?
SF: Three days, I believe.

HH: As fellow main characters, did you ever think "I won’t lose to him as a Rider?"
SS: Not really, but I felt like I had already lost when we did the transformation scene. There were 3 Fourze Riders and then me. (laughs)
SF: That’s so true!~ (laughs)

Kamen Rider Kabuto Novel Additional Info

Aside from the additional info we have for the Kamen Rider OOO and Kamen Rider W novels, here's the new info we have about the Kamen Rider Kabuto novel written by Shoji Yonemura.

The novel is basically the final story arc of the TV series turned into a novel. There are some extras not seen in the TV show but it is not that interesting.

The novel starts out with a 14-year old Tendou and starts jumping around to the contents from the final story arc. Even so, the scene and situation is changing all the time. You really need to have the final episodes fresh in your memory, otherwise it'll be confusing when reading it.

Nothing from the TV show is explained. No explanation where the Hopper Zecters came from or why Kagami became Gatack.

Kamen Rider Kabuto TV Series Review

Kamen Rider Kabuto is the 7th entry of the Heisei Kamen Rider series and the 16th entry of the long-running Kamen Rider franchise. The series also commemorated the 35th anniversary of the Kamen Rider franchise that started on April 3, 1971.

Souji Tendou is a man who trained for seven years while waiting for the arrival of the Kabuto Zecter to fight Worms as Kamen Rider Kabuto. Making many enemies while at the same time meeting other Riders with mysterious origins of how they got there. His goal is to destroy all Worms that otherwise threaten humanity. He meets Arata Kagami, a member of the mysterious ZECT organization who later becomes Kamen Rider Gatack, the two worked together to save humanity from the alien Worms that arrived from a meteorite seven years ago.

For an anniversary Kamen Rider series, Kamen Rider Kabuto rarely did tributes or allusions to the Kamen Rider franchise. The closest thing we have for tributes is the arrival of the Natives, which takes place 35 years prior to the start of the series and that the Masked Rider Project began on April 3, 1971, the day the first episode of Kamen Rider aired on TV and that some past Rider actors made cameos in the series. Other tributes that I notice in the series is that there are some instances that they are poking fun on the current trend of the Heisei Kamen Rider franchise with having multiple rival Kamen Riders and my personal favorite, the extreme contrasts of drama and comedy.

Story wise, the series has a lot of mysteries that keeps viewers glued in to their TV sets. Mysteries such as the true motive of the ZECT organization and how Tendou got his Masked Rider Belt bothered me. As the series progressed, they slowly answered those questions with some of the answers boggled my mind while some of it made me frown on the writers. Unlike the case I had while watching Kamen Rider 555 (which I will review soon), the revelations that made me frown didn't make me scream in frustration or face palm out of how stupid that twist is.

One of my favorite twists in the series is the relationship between Souji Tendou and Hiyori Kusakabe, which I thought at first Tendou, has this crush on Hiyori and he is just trying his best to make a good impression on her. In Hiyori's case, she has this bad memory of a man that wore a belt that she thought killed her parents during the meteor incident in Shibuya seven years ago. Their fates are slowly intertwined as the series progressed that lead us to one revelation that summed up the series as a whole. This twist is that Hiyori is the Native clone of Tendou's younger sister.

The twist is probably, one of the best twists the series offered as I didn't see it coming. The only thing I saw is that for once, the egoistic Souji Tendou had a soft spot on someone who is not his sister! The said twist also made me ask another question on why the silent Natives attacked Tendou's parents that gave us the Native Hiyori and Tendou ending up getting adopted by his grandma. Just like this twist, it took a couple of episodes for them to answer it. Getting intertwined with Tendou's family problem is Arata Kagami who is slowly getting close to Hiyori and thinks that Tendou is one of his friends. It gets a bit complicated later on once I get into the characters.

Kagami is what most people think the true protagonist in the series since he is first introduced and second, he is quite an engaging support character and you can easily say a bro amongst others. At one point in the series, he was chosen by TheBee Zecter to become Kamen Rider TheBee but because he cares his friendship to Tendou more than the power of TheBee Zecter, even though Tendou thinks that they are not friends. For at least half of the series, we see him do his best in everything that he can do that seeing he using his whole strength to convince the Gatack Zecter to be his user is one of the strongest points in this series.

As the series draws closer to its conclusion, the relationship between the Kusakabe and the Kagami family is becoming clearer. As it turns out, the attack on Tendou's parents is sort of planned by the Natives since they are involved with the research of the Masked Rider System, which will be used to fight the Worms who are set to land on Earth in the near future. To make things a bit clearer, their parents (!) are aware about the destinies of their sons that someday, they will become Kamen Riders to fight these Worms. This twist is the pinnacle point of the series that made me think that the Natives are actually the good guys but I was proven wrong in the last minute.

To be honest, I didn't expect that after all the Worms are destroyed by the Riders (less Tadokoro who is one of those good Worms), the plan of the Natives is to turn their back on humanity with the help of the ZECT organization to turn everyone into Natives! I find this twist a bit rushed because they never foreshadowed this sort of thing in some episodes. But I guess that is the beauty of this twist, I didn't see it coming. The plot device used on turning humans into Natives is the one most humans least expect that will turn them into one. At the end, our heroes defeated the Natives, Tendou accepted Kagami as his friend and that Hiyori accepted that she is not just a Native, but she is also Souji Tendou's younger sister.

The support cast of the series is just fun to watch. Tsurugi's butler, Kagami and his pals in ZECT, Renge and heck, Juka are fun to watch. For the main cast who is not a Rider, Hiyori and Gon are my personal favorite. Gon is a kid who lost her memories because of a Worm attack and she found solace in the form of Daisuke, a make-up artist who later became Kamen Rider Drake. Their relationship is fun to watch and during one time that Gon had her memories back, seeing Daisuke letting Gon go is one sad moment in the series and that Daisuke is not anymore Daisuke after it.

That is why I just love that Gon later regained her memories and decided to once again, tag along with Daisuke. The only thing that bothered me with it is that what happened to Gon's mother after her daughter ran away to join some make-up artist? They didn't explain it even after the series ended as she continues to tag along with Daisuke as seen in the epilogue scene at the last episode of the series.

Hiyori is quite a complicated support character to watch, she is a type of person who just likes to draw, a bit cold towards other people before she ended up becoming open towards others. In this case, she is slowly opening up to Tendou, Kagami, Juka and the owner of the restaurant where she is working. After the revelation, she finally decides to finally become close to his older brother but because of some sudden turn of events, she ended up in some void where she meets the Worm clone of her older brother. This is when the series gets a bit complicated, Hiyori having a dilemma between Tendou's childish Worm clone and her older brother. At the end, she chose his older brother and left his Worm clone.

Tendou's Worm clone, Souji Kusakabe is childish and thinks of Hiyori as his older sister because he doesn't have any other adult figure to look up too. The contrast between Tendou and Kusakabe is well done that I started to like Kusakabe more as a character after they introduced his back story that he is just a result of an experiment conducted by ZECT during the development of the Rider System. His growth from a guy who just wanted someone to take care of him, he became a true hero of justice in the last moments of the series.

As for the other Riders in the series, they are all likable less Kageyama on his days as Kamen Rider TheBee. Each of the Riders have their own traits in which some of them remained fairly consistent on their character development while some of them having whacked up character growth. To be more specific, the character development of KickHopper and PunchHopper from badasses who decided to cast off to their past and become anti-heroes, they become comic relief characters if the plot demands and then back as badasses once again, if the plot demands it.

Finally, the show's Masked Rider System is really interesting as it gives the Rider a more insect-like feel in the suits. Though at first I hated that the Riders have two forms, the Masked Form and the Rider Form, I started to appreciate it as the series progressed since the suits grew on me. I thought the Masked Form is useless at first because it only made the Rider Form look cooler but because on how Tendou use the Masked Form, it made me realize that it is quite useful in battle after all for the sake of defense. The Rider Form grants the Riders the ability to access a skill called "Clock Up", which makes time slower for the Riders to chase enemy Worms.

In the naked eye, the Riders will appear like a blur and I like it. Because of the show's budget, the Clock Up function slowly disappeared in the series as they focused more on the amazing fight scenes and that they are running out of budget. If they will use the Clock Up ability, they will use it on a scene that makes them use less CGI or in some area where there are barely any people in it and just focus on the amazing fight scenes. To put it simply, this unique feature suffered because of budget constraints and I hate it as they weren't able to use this function to its full potential or have a Clock Up scene involving the Hoppers.

Overall, Kamen Rider Kabuto is one fun series to watch, writing wise, it went a bit bonkers and have some questions left unanswered but at least you don't need to watch a movie or think a lot just for the series to make sense to you. The Kamen Rider Kabuto suits are one of the best suits I have seen in the franchise next to the Kamen Rider 555 suits and OOO's full Combo forms. It didn't help that the Masked Rider System is something that the franchise has rarely done and has this really cool Clock Up feature!

In terms of characters, the show has an interesting bunch of characters and that Souji Tendou is a fantastic main protagonist. His quoting of his grandmother's words of wisdom added certain flair on the overall character. His large ego and his love for his sisters and respect for food is quite a rare mix for a main character and I really like it. Arata Kagami and his issues with his father and himself is about the main cast that I like. His slow growth from that ZECT member who tries his best to do something in battle into that reliable companion in battle is well done, something that Kamen Rider OOO did years later with Gotou though they did it when the show only has 15-17 episodes left.

After watching the series, I finally understand why this is one of the best shows to introduce someone to the Kamen Rider franchise because it has the best and the worse things that the Kamen Rider franchise has the offer. Best in terms of suit, the action and the character and worse in terms of some of the characters, the story-telling and on the direction the series is going. If there is one thing that I learned while watching the series, it would be that the show doesn't know when it will be serious or not. I mean, the Iron Chef story arc is so crazy that I don't know if I am watching a dark and grim Kamen Rider series that we are first introduced in the first few episodes!

Additional Kamen Rider OOO Novel Info

With the first set of Heisei Kamen Rider novels released yesterday, someone posted the spoilers for the Kamen Rider OOO novel that is divided into three parts and is written by Nobuhiro Mori.

Ankh's part talks about the creation of the Greeeds all the way to the point where they are sealed up. Gara is mentioned and some parts from the movie are mentioned. The first OOO is in the novel. He is described by the source as "Kougami but evil." He also fights the Cockroach, Whale and Lion Yummies. Which are mentioned as the strongest Yummies. There’s also a Condor Yummy at one point.

Birth's part is written in the perspective of the Birth Driver on who he likes more. It goes on about how much it likes Date. At first it refuses to admit Gotoh as its user, eventually it takes a liking to him and finally acknowledges him.

Eiji's part does connect well with the TV show, they talk about the dying girl, maipenrai is brought up. For the most part it's about after Movie Wars MEGAMAX, Eiji still transforms into OOO to protect what he needs to protect.

Choudenshi Bioman 07 – Peebo's Youthful Days

Obvious disguise is obvious.

A mysterious saucer crashed landed on Earth and Peebo and Shiro decided to investigate. Turns out that saucer contains a Bio Inscription and Messer take a hold of it as it contains a message coming from Joy, Peebo's friend from the Planet Bio! What is this message and how is this relevant to Doctor Man and the New Gear Empire?

The first thing to note about this episode is Peebo's paper thin disguise, seriously, his disguise is so obvious that only an idiot will mistake him for some human being and not a robot! Before Peebo can encrypt the contents of the Bio Inscription, Messer got it and gave it to Mason, who later gave it to Doctor Man. The Bio Inscription turns out to be a compact disc created in Planet Bio and Doctor Man's computer can read it. What just a darn minute, did I read the line right? CDs exist during the 80's? Guess they were able to predict the possible evolution of the laserdisc in the show! It didn't help that Doctor Man's CD player reminded me of the car CD player!

The message is obviously in the Planet Bio language for the entire duration of the message; I don't know if Doctor Man understands what he is listening that I am just surprised that he referred Joy as a boy. I find it funny that the message gave Doctor Man an idea on how to beat the Biomen. Back to Peebo, he is searching for the disc that Messer got and while he is doing his search, the Biomen are also searching for Peebo!

While Peebo is busy with his search, he ended up remember the time he spent in Planet Bio with his friend, Joy. The use of the green screen to give us an impression that they are playing in a dying planet is not really well done. The use of transparency effect on Joy didn't make the flashback look natural; instead it only made the scene look a bit weird to me. Thankfully, when they made some close-up shots on the two, they stop using the transparency effect on the characters and it made the scene look more natural.

After Peebo rose from his quick flashback, he saw his friend Joy being bullied by kids! The first thing I notice in his appearance is Mason watching over them, like he is plotting something evil or he is watching his plan in action but whatever that plan is, it will be clearer as the episode progresses. The meeting between the two friends an emotional sight because finally, after 500 years, Peebo finally saw one of his friends. The first thing that they explained why he is still alive after 500 years is because he went on a process called Cold Sleep while his ship is travelling toward Earth so that he can meet Peebo.

It makes sense but if there is one thing I learned from Cold Sleep in other media, it would be their memories prior they had the Cold Sleep will remain intact. I started to get suspicious on Joy because he forgot a Planet Bio custom of greeting someone. Same goes with Shiro; he is now suspecting Joy due to his actions. Before Peebo can properly enjoy his reunion, Mason kidnapped Joy and for him to free Joy, Peebo must go to this mountain alone!

As for Peebo, we saw a new side of him that he is more than just a robot that helps the Biomen, he actually has emotions. We saw his childish side when he became upset with the Biomen. Because Peebo became a bit childish and he is reckless on falling in an obvious trap, the Biomen decided to chain him in the base to protect the secret of the Bio Base. Peebo's childish attitude makes sense since when he left Planet Bio when his mind is in the condition that he is a kid.

What made it a bit worse for Peebo is that for 500 years, he is waiting for the time Earth is in big trouble and that the descendants of the humans who were showered with Bio Particles to protect Earth. Learning that his friend might be alive gave Peebo hope that there might be survivors from the destroyed Planet Bio and that getting chained in the base just to protect the base is unfair for someone who is alone for 500 years! Thankfully, the Biomen understands Peebo's situation and that is why they will try to save Joy for Peebo's case.

While the Biomen are busy fighting Messer and the Mecha Clones, Peebo decides to escape! His method in trying to escape is quite dangerous because he electrocuted himself just for the electricity to flow on the chains that will hopefully cause its destruction! It's a reckless move for Peebo because it might destroy him but it worked. Back to the Biomen, as expected, they beat the Mecha Clones and much to my surprise, Messer can still stun the Biomen and not surprisingly, the Biomen once again, defeated Messer! To be honest, I am starting to get bored with the Beastnoids in the series, they are constantly getting beaten by the Biomen every episode!

The giant mecha fight in this episode continues to impress me as this time around, our heroes face Isogin Kans, a Mecha Giant with tentacles as his main weapon. Before the Biomen can finish Isogin Kans, they notice Peebo running on the snow and the New Gear Empire took this opportunity to kidnap Peebo! Now that Peebo is now in their clutches, the Bio Robo can't just finish the Mecha Giant! With Peebo captive along with his friend, Joy, can the Biomen save them? To make matters worse, like what Shiro suspected, Joy turns out to be a not Joy but a Mecha Human!

Kamen Rider Wizard & Fourze: Movie Wars Ultimatum Complete Spoilers

Henshin Justice has just compiled all the spoilers for the much awaited Kamen Rider x Kamen Rider Wizard & Fourze: Movie Wars Ultimatum! So those who are curious on what happened to the movie, read at your own risk.

The movie starts off with Ryusei and Inga are investigating a crime organization in South America. They hear from the boss of the organization that there's a Switcher in Japan, so they both head back. Back at New Amanogawa, Gentaro is trying his best to be a good teacher, suddenly Saburo announces that he’s the leader of the Monster Alliance. He reveals his mission to destroy Yuki's space capsule, and runs out of the classroom. Gentaro chases after him, when he’s caught up Saburo transforms into Sannagiman.

Gentaro transforms, they fight and Gentaro is winning. Banba appears, blocks Fourze’s attack and transforms into Hercules Zodiarts. The movie doesn’t really explain where Banba got his Switch from. But Akumaizer paid him to work for them. He just comes off as greedy person. He’s the one who gives Saburo the Zebar, a device that will enhance his ESP powers. Later it’s revealed that the Zebar is only collecting energy for the Akumaizer.

Ryusei eventually arrives in Japan and reunites with Gentaro, as the Switcher he was chasing is Banba. In order to celebrate Yuki’s successful mission, Gentaro gathers all the Kamen Rider Club members to surprise her. Except for Tomoko, who’s doing a fan signing event. The camera is showing a fan with a book waiting for her autograph. As she looks up, Ryusei is standing there. They passionately hug in front of the huge crowd that came to the event.

Banba gathers students by saying he’ll give them ESP abilities, but in reality he places small mind controlling devices on them. Gentaro and his friends arrive, Inga shows a video clip to the students revealing Banba’s real intent and that no one will actually be receiving ESP abilities. All the students are saved and flee the scene.

Saburo, who wasn’t there, still doesn’t know the truth. He transforms into Sannagiman and agrees to fight with Banba. At this point all the Kamen Rider Club members get some short action scenes, except Tomoko. Saburo, who actually had ESP powers, was rejected by his parents and society. Everyone saw him as a monster, except Miyoko, the only current Kamen Rider Club member. She always saw the human in Saburo. As Gentaro is fighting Saburo as Sannagiman, Gentaro eventually decides to cancel his transformation and throws the Fourze Driver into a furnace destroying the belt. He tries to stop Saburo as his senior, his teacher and as his friend.

On the other hand, Meteor is having trouble fighting Hercules Zodiarts. Gentaro runs to the scene, but is unable to transform with a broken belt. Saburo appears as the fully grown Inazuman and saves the day. Hercules is eventually defeated by Inazuman. Saburo reverts back to human form, but he’s standing there naked. His transformation process is so strong it causes his clothes to explode.

After all the fighting, they see Yuki’s space capsule returning to Earth. Everything seems fine, until Eel shows up and takes the Zebar. He uses the Zebar shoots an energy beam, through an antenna, at the capsule and causes an explosion. Everyone thinks Yuki is dead, suddenly a light shines down. The light is actually Nadeshiko saving Yuki. She destroys the antenna and goes into her human form, Nadeshiko. Gentaro is happy to see her, and they run to each other and hug.

Eel flees through a warp hole. Gentaro, Ryusei and Nadeshiko chase after him. They end up around Amanogawa High School, and they realize the warp hole brought them 5 years back to the past. As they are trying to find Eel, they stumble upon Gentaro on his way to school. Future Gentaro borrows Past Gentaro’s Fourze Driver. Fourze part ends here.

Wiseman tells Medusa and Phoenix to work together with the Akumaizer, after hearing about their plan to create an infinite amount of monsters. They capture 5 humans and hook them up to a mysterious machine. They 5 of them are all Gates, and with the machine the Akumaizer creates monsters through their Underworld.

Haruto finds out, and attacks the Akumaizer. Medusa and Phoenix decide not to join the fight as they don’t get along with the 3 Akumaizers. Medusa just can’t accept the way Akumaizer do things.

Eventaully the Akumaizer head to the Underworld, Wizard follows them and before the Gate closes Rinko and Shunpei jump in as well. Haruto wakes up from the shock and finds everything very strange. Koyomi and Wajima keep repeating ‘today is Patrine’s birthday.” Suddenly monsters appear and attack 4 kids. Wizard saves them, but then Patrine appears destroys all the monsters and a crowd gathers. The crowd is cheering for Patrine and she receive praise from every direction.

This day is constantly repeating inside Yu Murakami’s Underworld. Yu Murakami is the one who becomes Patrine. Zatan is actually controlling her from the outside. Unless she wakes up the 4 children, Wizard, Rinko and Shunpei will be stuck in there forever. For some reason, Gaara becomes a pastor and holds the wedding ceremony for Yu and Haruto. With the help of Rinko and the 4 children, the mind control is broken from outside.

Haruto fights Gaara and summons Dragon. Gaara transforms into the giant, Gaaraccho. Fights between Wizard and Akumaizer ensues, Patrine is saved and they all return to the real world. But Patrine ends up captured again and the movie leads to Movie Wars Ultimatum.

Koyomi who was left behind actually meets Team Fourze. She gives Gentaro a special ring with Fourze’s face on it. This allows Gentaro to enter the Underworld.

The Akumaizer’s real plan is to use the energy stored inside the Zebar to throw it into the Sea of Hell. Which will cause an overflow of magic which will reach Earth. Humans who aren’t resistant to magic will then die. Akumaizer takes their armored car to flee, and battle fights with bikes occur.

Eventually they reach some cliffs and Zatan summons the Zaiderbeck, a living mech-like creature. With the Zaiderbeck and Zebar, Zatan tries to go to the Sea of Hell, which is in the depths of Underworld. To stop Zatan, Fourze asks Meteor and Nadeshiko for their strength and access Meteor Nadeshiko Fusion States. Patrine (Yu Murakami) wishes so hard that the Special Rush Ring is created. With this ring, Wizard basically equips Dragon. Together, Fourze and Wizard defeat Zatan.

It is then revealed that the owner of Donuts Shop Hungry’s real name is Yu Murakami. Donuts Shop Hungry’s owner’s, Yu Murakami, Underworld is actually his/her ‘ideal self’. Everything is how (s)he wants his/her life to really be. (S)He actually wants to marry Haruto as the female Yu Murakami. Haruto can’t believe what’s going on.
