Power Rangers Megaforce 02 – He Blasted Me with Science

Them colorful borders.

Jake wants to know Gia more now that they are part of the same team, but before Jake makes his move, the MOTW appears. Since they are the ones who first saw the MOTW, Jake suggested that they can handle it. Can these two handle the MOTW all by themselves?

But before that, the episode begins with a pop quiz scene and saw a flash back of Troy and Creepox's first meeting. This scene suggests that they are trying to establish a rivalry here, but I don't feel the buildup on the said rivalry. All I see is a scene featuring a human having his first encounter on an alien. Now that we are done with it, let's talk about Noah in this episode.

Noah showed us his knowledge is beyond the classic science stuff, he is a geek when it comes to cryptozoology! What's great about it is that he has the same interest with Professor Burley! I like this kind of connection as it feels like the show has this whole community feel in it, like the side characters are more than just side characters in this series. What's interesting in their interaction is that I see this great student-teacher relationship building between these two. Aside from that, another thing worth noting is the stuff in the background, in this case is the logo of the UMA Beast (or Yuumajuu), the 2nd enemy faction in Goseiger. I love the effort they put when it comes to build-up of the enemy factions.

As for Jake and Gia, well Jake's efforts in trying to know the hottest girl in school a bit more has some effort in it. All he lacks is the proper push, you know, the perfect topic that they can share together. It didn't help that it is interrupted thanks to an attack of an MOTW! What's funny is that during the time Jake is being hugged by Gia, it is just her looking for her morpher in her back! Oh well, at least Jake got hugged by his crush and that's enough for him. The MOTW in this episode is a scientist, and gathers human samples for his experiment in finding the human's weakness. Well about time they have these creatures!

Because Jake and Gia are in the scene, Jake suggested that they can handle it. As for how they handled it, they did a pretty good job with it, though their force is not enough to defeat it. The scene also featured some new fight footage that properly meshed well with the Goseiger stock footage. The only time you notice the difference between the Goseiger footage and the original footage is when it comes to the MOTW, he is bluer than the original Goseiger footage.

Now that the team is almost complete, we saw the MOTW test our heroes. What's interesting is his dialogue, it sounds so scientific that I like every bit of it. It didn't help that he is having a great time experimenting on the humans, to be more specific, the Rangers! Thankfully, Noah arrives just in time to save them. After they defeated the MOTW, it is time for Vrak to turn him into a giant! What's interesting here is that Vrak is revealed to be part of royalty and that the Zombats, the enlargement agent are robots in this series, not creatures created from malice and other evil crap like in Goseiger.

Because the enemy turned giant, the Rangers wondered how they can fight it until Gosei told them about their machines that they summoned with their cards. What's interesting is that they retained the "Gosei (insert Zord name here)" names! I am not sure if it is just Saban being lazy to film new Megazord summoning footage, but I guess they are saving the budget for something bigger. There are a couple of things I noticed in the giant battle scene, aside from the amazing Goseiger giant fight footage from episode 2.

I noticed that they use some stock footage of the fight scene twice, the split screen scenes of the Rangers were given some colorful border updates and that the Megaforce Rangers are noisier than the Goseigers in battle. Not that I am complaining because their dialogue is fun. Another thing to note is that the Warstar crew wondered who is backing up the Rangers; this gave me an idea that these guys are quite competent. After the formation of the Gosei Great Megazord (Wait, what?!), they were able to defeat the MOTW with their finisher. The episode ends with Jake realizing the importance of all of five together in battle, even though he has this amazing teamwork with Gia.
