And the debut of this guy.
The Plezuon Lab is destroyed and Dark Species Deboth getting impartially resurrected by Chaos, what's next for the team now that they are over powered by this new threat? Meanwhile, Yayoi thinks that she failed the team because of what happened to Plezuon and the lab.
This is yet another strong episode in the series, aside that this episode properly wrapped up the story arc nicely; this episode featured some nice character development for Yayoi. But before talking about that, let's first talk about what happened in the episode's first few minutes. What's great about this scene is the fact that the remaining two Voltasaurs helped our heroes without being summoned. It reminded you that the Voltasaurs can think for themselves and has some personality.
Speaking of personality, the revived Dark Species Deboth is basically a monster. He has no personality whatsoever and just attacks the team and his allies. In short, he is not interesting, at least for now. Even if that is the case, his lack of personality made sense when we learned that this Deboth was forcefully resurrected by Chaos thanks to Plezuon's return. Thankfully, they have countermeasures for it just in case it goes berserk. The idea of decompressing a monster with the use of some "ice ball" is one neat idea and a perfect contrast to the show's growing agent, which is probably, the cutest way in making a monster grow in Super Sentai.
Because they are badly beaten by Deboth, our heroes ended up resting in the Spirit Base along with their partner Voltasaurs. If there is one thing that bothered me about it is how the heck Torin managed to bring 8 robot dinosaurs inside the Spirit Base? I mean, he is a freakin' bird man for crying out loud! But hey, at least the Voltasaurs are recuperating and that's what matters. As for the team, it seems that they didn't handle the lost quite well... except for King.
Watching this scene made me realize King's major flaw, he is too perfect as a character. I mean, they are badly beaten by the guy who is supposed to end the world and that's how he handled it instead, he thinks that they can fight him back and not thinking of ways to fight the bad guy! But when you think about it, this is the kind of attitude the team needs. They don't know the enemy's weakness; they only know that they were badly beaten by it. King's attitude is something the team needs right now in this time when all hope seems lost. Thankfully, they get it in start to take the rest they need to once again fight for another day.
As for King, he left the base and ended up meeting Yayoi who was drifted ashore after the explosion. This is the part of the episode where we have some character development for Yayoi. Seeing Yayoi in this state where she thinks that she only did harm than good for the team is really interesting. It showed us how fragile she is as a person. Her lack of self-confidence is one of the reasons why I liked Yayoi when they expanded her character in the previous episode, she has a lot of room to grow and her being alone in the beach is the perfect opportunity to show us some character growth.
Instead of a proper internal monologue of her remembering King's words and realizing that the team still needs her even though she failed, we have King giving her the same lesson she had in the previous episode with a minor alteration of including the word "brave". To be honest, there is nothing wrong with it but it watching this scene for the second time gives me an impression that she can't live without King. But thanks to a monster attack, this scene ended and our heroes faced Debo IceAge while Gabutyra and Bunpachy are fighting Dark Species Deboth.
The giant fight in this scene is really well done and I just love the use of models and some stock footage for good measure. As for the Kyoryuger scene, the transformation scene in this episode looks really great. But as for the fights, it's quite standard except that they remembered that Gaburicannon exists. Back to Yayoi, the monologue that I have been waiting for is finally here. What I like about this scene is that Yayoi realized something that is inside her, and that is being brave. Granted, she realized it because Plezuon lacks something for it to complete its upgrade, but her realization lead us to one of the coolest scenes in recent Super Sentai history. I will not spoil the details but this made me respect Yayoi a bit more.
Now that Plezuon's upgrade is now complete, it is time to fight Dark Species Deboth with Plezu-Oh! Oh, and we learned that since it is now upgraded as the ultimate Deboth Hunter, it is time to form the new form, the Bakuretsu Kyoryuzin! The formation sequence of this form looks cool but as for the form itself, it looks ridiculous. I mean seriously, a giant tail sticking out of the mecha? For a mid-season upgrade, it doesn't look really badass. But hey, I don't care much about the designs just as long as it functions well in battle!
Even if the design looks a bit clunky, at least it can still move properly and can still flail Bunpachy's Meteor Hammer. But that's not all, the way they shot its first fight is really well done since they highlighted that huge this guy is and the fact that it has a freakin' cannon in its arm. As for its finisher, even though it's your standard giant laser cannon finisher and it's not a real time finisher, but a stock footage shot, the finisher looks fantastic, and our heroes finally defeated Dark Species Deboth once and for all... or so they thought.
Inside Dark Species Deboth is Chaos and Dogold, who are piloting their master and after its first destruction in front of our heroes, Deboth did what most main villains do, find an opportunity to be resurrected again with a little help coming from his subordinates and in this case, we have Chaos. But hey, our heroes should savor this moment since all of them did a great job in saving the world from Deboth! But they couldn't have done it without Yayoi's bravery.
