Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger 22 – The Return of Dark Species Deboth

Also, Yayoi having this crush on King.

Thanks to the data that Doctor Ulshade gathered in one planet destroyed by the Deboth Legion, Yayoi will continue her grandpa's work by upgrading Plezuon to become the strongest Deboth Hunter! Meanwhile, Chaos plans to revive Dark Species Deboth now to stop this.

Compared to the previous episode, the episode puts more focus on Yayoi's personality. The episode basically confirmed that she has this massive crush on King, which is not a surprise considering how she looks at him. I am fine with her having a crush on King, but what's creepy about it is that she has a folder filled with King's pictures, and that her special tech glasses also has pictures of King in it as well as his digital hologram! I am not sure why she ended up getting attracted on an idiot like him, but at least explain why her computer folder filled stuff related to King is not password protected or something!

Aside from this confirmation, we also learned that she has some confidence issues. Considering that she is not a mad genius like her grandpa, it's kinda expected that she is the shy type like most geniuses are in media. With King around supporting her, I guess she will eventually learn how to gain self-confidence thanks to King. With that in mind, Yayoi starts her task in upgrading Plezuon. Before talking about Deboth's plan in this episode, the episode brought up something interesting related to Utchy's changer. As it turns out, Torin made Utchy's changer back in the Warring States period. I guess that clarified the plot hole brought up in the previous episode then.

Now it's time for Deboth's plan in this episode, like what the title of the episode says, it has something to do with the revival of Dark Species Deboth. The plan involves Debo Virsun creating more of that nutritious water and let it overflow to a dam. The plan sounds simple but it doesn't make sense... at first that is. What made it more interesting for me is that Dogold is supervising it. Is it me, or Chaos really trusts Dogold with a lot of things? I mean, he's been with Chaos' side since the Warring States period!

There is also another plan aside from that and it has something to do with infiltrating the Plezuon Lab, which is something that was foreshadowed in the previous episode. One thing that bothered me at first with this plan is that Canderrilla and co. are expecting that Debo Virsun will have a clone or something inside the base. The last time we remembered is that what he did is send some sentient goo and not a clone! It later made sense when that sentient goo transformed and become Debo Computervirsun whose job is to destroy the data related to Plezuon, delaying the upgrade in the process.

With his appearance, it kinda destroyed Yayoi's confidence just for a bit. I guess it will take some time for her to recover her lost self-confidence. While this is all happening, the Kyoryugers are busy fighting Debo Virsun and Dogold! There is nothing much to talk about the fight. The only thing worth talking about in this scene is that Amy's brief scene if she really likes King. Considering that she is quite jealous with Yayoi earlier in the episode, it's just Amy being dishonest about her true feelings for King. Oh well, at least she will figure it out in the process.

Finally, they are done with filling the dam with nutritious water and it's time to execute the plan in reviving Deboth! It finally made sense why they needed a dam; they need to dump the Frozen Castle in there so that they can revive Deboth! While they are busy reviving Deboth, Debo Virsun and Dogold is preventing our heroes to foil the plan! So yeah, Debo Virsun is defeated thanks to KyoryuRed using the Deinosgrander Beast Battery. Now that we are done with it, it is time for the giant battle. The giant battle is quite generic but to make up for it is the scene wherein they are reviving Dark Species Deboth and to be honest, his revival feels underwhelming.

I find it underwhelming because it's kinda expected that he will be defeated at the end of this story arc. Even if that's the case, the Voltasaurs are afraid with this guy, makes sense since the guy is responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs. Even if his early revival feels underwhelming, the fact that he killed one of his Debo Monsters is quite a surprise. It's so barbaric that I am quite surprise that this monster is responsible with the extinction of the dinosaurs. Now that Debo Virsun is killed by his own master, his clone is also defeated. This is the part when the signal thing and why they need the clone made sense.

As it turns out, the clone must die first so that his body will become specks of dust, which is the signal that Canderrilla and co. needs. In short, it's time for them to destroy the Plezuon Lab. With Plezuon out of commission, guess our heroes are now left with the current Voltasaurs they have. With Kyoryuzin Western being ineffective against Deboth, the only combination left is Raiden Kyoryuzin, which is technically, the team's current strongest form. Even with that kind of power, they still can't beat Deboth... and that's how the episode ended. It ended with a cliffhanger.
