Also, what's with the deadpan stare in front of a cake?
Because of the MOTW's ability to copy the techniques of the Goseigers and that it has no seed to counter Alata's Comprethunder attack, Eri decides to train herself and master the said card... which leads us to her asking Alata to teach her how to learn said technique. But the bigger question is can she learn anything from Alata?
After one strong episode, which is one amazing send off to Dareptor, it kinda makes sense that the next episode is a breather episode and has a plot concerning the bad guys wanting to avenge Dareptor's death. Even if that is the current motivation of Warstar, I don't see or feel any thirst of revenge coming from Bladerun and the MOTW. The only one who looks and feels like who wants to see the Goseigers dead right now is Mohth Drekk! As for the MOTW's powers, it's kinda interesting that for a monster with copy abilities, they limit it depending on what type of seed he is eating. At least it is kinda creative.
This is when Comprethunder comes in; it's the only attack that hit the MOTW because he doesn't have a seed to counter such attack! Before Alata can do another Comprethunder attack, the MOTW escapes and thus, our heroes decide to regroup and form a plan to defeat the MOTW. This is when Eri decides to train so that she can also master the Comprethunder card and with a little help coming from Alata, he can manage to learn this technique! That's what she thought.
The training session between Alata and Eri kinda looks like two kids having a contest on who has the best monster pose. To be honest, I really like it. This is the kind of training I am expecting to see from an air-based tribe. It's laid back, simple, it looks fun and the most important factor of all, you can't see if they are making any progress, which is just like air! Just like air, you can't see it, but you can only feel it. Because the training looks like it has something to do on feeling really good, Alata treats Eri a strawberry parfait and showed her his favorite spot in the city. By the time the episode is halfway done, Eri can now form nimbus clouds and create static. At least she is having some progress.
Aside from the training, we also have this really nice flashback featuring Alata and Eri back when they are still kids. It showed us Eri teaching Alata some Invocations. What's interesting about it is that the way she trained Alata is the same kind of training that Alata is giving her! It's nice to see that Alata still remembers the lessons he learned from Eri. Even though he doesn't look like that he remembered Eri teaching her that lesson, I just love that he just brought up he just trains Eri the same way she trained him years ago.
Because Eri remembered her old lesson, we also have another flashback explaining why this is the training Alata should have if he wants to master the use of Invocations. To put it simply, learning new skills requires the power of love, without it, you can't do anything. Guess my theory that the training has something to do with feeling good is kinda right after all. Now that's been settled, it is time to show us the fruits of her training as she used the Comprethunder card to fight the MOTW, only for the MOTW to fight back with a new power seed.
Since a single Comprethunder is ineffective, why not have two Comprethunder attacks? Alata helping Eri to summon more lightning and thunder is one fantastic sight to see. It's like I am seeing a master and his/her student team up just to defeat one powerful enemy! What made it more amazing is that their Comprethunder cards also have this kind of power-up. With this new card, they were able to defeat its counterattack but Bladerun is there prevent his death. This then lead us to my other disappointment of this episode, the introduction of the Mystic Brother.
To be honest, the Mystic Brother is one of the most creative looking Super Sentai mecha that I have seen. It's creative in a sense that it used a freakin' ostrich as the inspiration of this machine. Even though it looks creative at first glance and how it moves, the attacks look uninspiring. I mean, it uses a giant egg as his ball so that it can hit the MOTW?! To top it all off, this mecha just kicked Bladerun so easily! I am fine if this ostrich robot kicks the MOTW but Bladerun, one of the commanders in this series getting kicked by a freakin' ostrich robot is ridiculous and at the same time, dumb.
Finally, its combination with GoseiGreat is in my opinion, the lamest mecha combination in Super Sentai history. It's lame because he has a freakin' ostrich fan attached in the side of his arm. What's more is that the Mystic Brother attachment looks like it is as tall as GoseiGreat! As for the attacks of this combination, it looks a bit bland. It's not as good or amazing as the previous GoseiGreat combinations. As for the finisher, it is simply uninspiring.
This is why I hate Mystic Brother; it's so bad that it makes me wonder why the heck the producer approved such mecha. I mean, if they want to sell toy robots, make it look so flashy that kids will buy it once they see it! But nope, the ostrich robot does not fit in that kind of category. This mecha closer to the category of "buy our new toy because you saw it on TV" kind of thing. At the end, Eri realized that Alata is becoming more mature. Is it me, or am I smelling a possible romance?
