And Souji in the center of the roll call!
For a Souji episode, it is more focused on his club manager who has a crush on him. There is nothing wrong with it because it reminded us that Ian still exists and that Utchy is doing well when it comes to adjusting in the real world. Heck, he was able to act like your Japanese high school street punk with ease... and he is taking it too seriously! As for their plan in helping Souji's club manager, it's cheesy, it might work but things that they didn't expect to happen, causing the plan to fail eventually. Their failure is the best part of this episode as we learned that Ian's "love bullets" still misses a target or two.
As for Deboss plan to gather emotions to revive their boss, it is kinda interesting. Using unrequited love as a power source for sadness kinda makes sense since that kind of love is kinda sad for most people. I mean, people not returning the love you gave them even though you gave your all just to love him/her. It's cruel and it fits well to the emotion theme that the villains are going for right now. Aside from cutting in ties of love to release the unrequited love emotion, the MOTW can also cut strong bonds of friendship just to display that level of emotion.
Back to Souji and his manager, things didn't go to what Ian expected as it reached to the point that she thought that Souji and Amy are dating after seeing them do some shopping in a local shopping mall! This is when the episode becomes more focused on Souji. This scene made us realize how much Souji has grown as a person thanks to his Kyoryuger friends. Without them, he will still be the cold swordsman with insecurity issues. He now smiles from time to time and that is one big improvement to the Souji we know. I prefer this kind of Souji as he shows concern to his teammates, rather than leave them alone if things get rough.
This also leads up to some clarification about Souji and Amy's current status, they are just friends and as a Ramirez and Amy shipper, I am quite happy about it. Ignore what I just said. Back to the story, before Souji's manager confess her true feelings, the MOTW cut their ties, causing Souji's manager to act very possessive towards Souji. But that's not the best part of this scene; the best part is when Nossan and King lured the MOTW out so that Utchy can cut his scissors! The plan is something I didn't expect King will do. I expected that his plan is something that is really wild or out of the box. This plan is one of those stock plots in Super Sentai that I think a Sentai hero will pull off from time to time.
The plan succeeded and they were able to destroy the scissors for good. The best part about it is how his teammates reacted; they can't believe that King will do something like that! Now that this is over, it is time for this episode's team battle. The new roll call stock footage looks too bright compared to the previous stock footage. As for the fights, they are amazing, especially with Souji's sword play in this episode. To top it all off, it is also his time to use the Pteragordon Beast Battery to perform an electric-based attack!
Now that the MOTW is defeated, it is time for the giant battle! The giant Zorima are back in this episode and much to my surprise, they can't handle it. It is really disappointing considering that Gabutyra alone can beat one or two of those monsters. But hey, at least this leads us to the debut of Pteraidenoh Western! The new formation at least reminded us that Black and Green have partner Voltasaurs, which they defeated months prior to the start of the series. Like Kyoryuzin Western, it likes to use its gun more than its claws. As for its finisher, it is better than its Kyoryuzin variant in my opinion.
The episode ends and Souji gave a gift to his manager... only to give another one to another club manager. Even though he is more thoughtful about other people, he is still a bit insensitive to the feelings of other people, in this case, Souji's manager. But I guess he is not being insensitive, he is just slow to realize that his club manager likes him. In short, he doesn't get why his manager is angry because of his actions at the end of the episode!
