Planned Live-Action Monster TV Series Will Follow the Manga Very Closely


Director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pacific Rim) revealed that his planned live-action TV adatation of Naoki Urusawa's Monster manga very closely and that they will not add extra content.

Urusawa would only give permission for the adaptation if he could review the outline of each episode very closely. This planned TV series will air on HBO and last week, Del Toro submitted the pilot script to the said TV station. Said pilot was written by Del Toro and Steven Thompson (Doctor Who, Sherlock) and Del Toro will direct it if the project pushes through.

Executive producers of this series are Angry Films' Don Murphy (live-action Transformers) and Susan Montford along with del Toro. Thompson will serve as a co-executive producer, and Shogakukan (publisher of the original manga) will be a consulting producer.

The plot of the upcoming TV series is about the worldwide search by a young doctor for the most evil sociopath that has ever lived. He is a 12-year old boy, and the doctor's decision to save his life has unwittingly unleashed a Pandora's Box that leaves the doc battling to stop a plot of mass genocide.
