Bakuman S3 09 – Of 50 Online "Friends" & Editor

Now that Ashirogi is aware of Nanamine's rather unorthodox methods in making manga, the duo are out to crush him with their manga once Nanamine gets serialized after his new one-shot succeeds. But the question is will Nanamine's editor, Kosugi learn Nanamine's "trade secret"?

There is not that interesting that happened in this episode. Aside from fight of words between Ashirogi and Nanamine, most of their scenes have something to do with how Nanamine's own style of making manga will cause his downfall. The two have a point actually, to put it simply, if you have a lot of ideas crammed in a single story, nothing will happen with the main story at the end. It is like having a lot of side stories in a single chapter and you don't know which character I should focus on while reading it.

Also, they are thinking on how to make an unorthodox battle manga by citing references from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Kamen Rider. In addition, Katou is back as one of Ashirogi's assistants. Well it is nice to have her back in Team Ashirogi. But this episode is not about Ashirogi's team or them criticizing Nanamine. It is about a lowly editor named Kosugi whose author doesn't want his advice because he has 50 people in the internet advising him.

Kosugi just wants to make a good manga with his author, only to end up getting the treatment an editor doesn't deserve. All of his recommendations are rejected by Nanamine and does what he wants as an author. If I were in his position, I would follow what Yoshida does with Hiramaru, be the devil to force the talent out of his author. But nope, Kosugi acted like a coward and just let Nanamine have his way. Even if that is the case, he is happy that Nanamine's one-shot is in first place but he feels like he didn't contribute a single bit in its creation.

Since it is likely that Nanamine's manga will be serialized, it is time to finally set a meeting with him. This is when Kosugi finally meets Nanamine's "team" of internet advisors. At first, he is not fine with it but after realizing that he needs to make a hit, he has no choice but to follow Nanamine's lead if the one-shot gets serialized. Though disappointment, I know that deep inside, he wants Nanamine to realize his mistake that it is bad to make manga with a lot of people in it. Well, technically there are groups such as CLAMP who make manga but Nanamine's method doesn't credit the other creators as he claimed in the title that he made it alone. In a sense, Nanamine's method is more of plagiarism rather than a team of creators under one name.

Aside from this one, we also learn how Nanamine developed his attitude of his. If I can sum up that scene in one phrase that is, "never have your kid read too much manga." There is a reason why there is a fine print sentence printed in every single volume of manga published that it is a work of fiction and never take it too seriously. This is what Nanamine did; he took the concept of Money and Intelligence too seriously. That everything can be bought if you have the money.
