A movie based on Shotaro Ishinomori's classic adult manga 009-1 was announced recently. Entitled "009-1 The End of the Beginning", it stars Mayuko Iwasa (Detective Conan) as the titular cyborg agent Mylene "009-1" Hoffman.
The story is set in a world where the Cold War never ended, and the solitary cyborg agent 009-1 operates in the violent skirmishes waged between the two factions. The live-action film will recreate not only the manga's gun battles, but also 009-1's signature "breast guns."
Also starring in the movie are: Minehiro Kinomoto (Kamen Rider W), Nao Nagasawa (Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger), Mao Ichimichi (Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger), and Shizuka Midorikawa (Kamen Rider W RETURNS: Eternal). Naoto Takenaka (GARO: Makai Senki) and Aya Sugimoto (Kamen Rider W FOREVER) play top brass in the 00 organization.
The film commemorates the 75th birthday of Shotaro Ishinomori this year and is directed by Koichi Sakamoto (Kamen Rider W FOREVER, Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger). The movie will play as the last showing in Tokyo's Shinjuku Wald 9 theater complex, followed by other theaters in limited release starting this September 7th.
