Neo Ultra Q Marks the Return of Ultra Q after 47 Years
After 47 years, Ultra Q, the monster television series that spawned the Ultraman franchise marks its return with Neo Ultra Q, a 12-episode "second season" that will start airing next year.
GakuryĆ« Ishii, YĆ« Irie, and other film directors are helming the episodes on the WOWOW cable and satellite channel. It will be a part of “Tsuburaya Productions x WOWOW's Three Great Ultra Projects,” along with HDTV runs of Ultraman and Ultra Seven.
Hailed as the most expensive Japanese TV show during its time, ULTRA Q (1966) is a 28 episode series, and considered as the predecessor to the Ultraman franchise, which became a phenomenon, and one of the best-remembered shows of the 1960s. It is a cross between THE TWILIGHT ZONE and THE OUTER LIMITS, funneled through Toho Monster movies.
The remastered edition of Ultra Q in full color was released in two sets for the Blu-ray and DVD last year.
