Gen Urobuchi Talks About Kamen Rider Gaim in the Latest Hyper Hobby Magazine Issue

Because Kamen Rider Gaim's designs kinda looked ridiculous, fans wondered if the show will end up having a ridiculous plot. In the latest issue of Hyper Hobby magazine, series head writer Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero) gives us a good overview about the series.

Unlike its predecessors, Kamen Rider Gaim's storytelling will be similar to the older Heisei Kamen Rider shows with the show breaking the habit of having obvious two-part episodes. In short, the style will be similar to Kamen Rider Kuuga-555. When it comes to the characters, he hopes htat he can portray a more dramatic take on the characters and situations not seen since the early Heisei Kamen Rider shows.

As for the characters, he describes Mitsuzane/Ryugen as a thoughtful character who doesn't wish to be a burden on anyone else. He also mentions that Kaito/Balon is an argumentative and quick to anger despite having a pure heart. As for Ryugen's brother, Takatora/Zangetsu, he describes him as the "Ouja" of the series. For those who are not aware on who is Ouja, he is from Kamen Rider Ryuki and he is the crazy, homicidal character with the most Rider kills in the show.

The interview also revealed why the show is starting a bit late. It is to allow a short anniversary of the Heisei era so that Kamen Rider Gaim can truly shine on its own. Lastly, he mentions how he ended up working on Kamen Rider. It is thanks to voice actor Tomokazu Sugita (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Gintama) who voiced Kivat in Kamen Rider Kiva and working on the show is a personal dream come true for him.
