Attack on Titan Creator Reveals the Inspiration Behind the Giant Titans

In the latest episode of Nihon TV's Zip!, Attack on Titan creator Hajime Isayama appeared and revealed the details about himself and his manga, especially how he created some of its known elements.

The idea of the Titans came after he encountered a drunk customer at the Internet café he was working at. He was inspired with their lack of ability to communicate even though they are of the same species and thought at that moment that the most familiar and scary animal in the world is actually the human. In addition, he looks at a reference book for various human expressions when drawing the Titans.

Because he lived in a rural Japanese town surrounded by mountains, he wanted to go beyond the mountains. This later reflected in the manga as towns in the manga are surrounded by walls. Eren's wish to go outside the walls is similar to his own when he was a child.

Lastly, he is a fan of Momoiro Clover Z and while he is drawing a particularly painful scene in his manga, he thinks of Momoiro Clover Z to cheer himself up.
