Attack on Titan 04 – Training Ends

Harsh military training continues for our heroes as they are now getting close to their graduation. With that in mind, will Eren stay firm with his beliefs to join the Survey Corps or will he end up joining the Military Police for a chance of a convenient life?

Before watching this episode, I just think of the minor characters as characters that are just there so that we have this impression that they are indeed in some military school. While watching this episode, I am starting to appreciate them a bit more. These guys help our main character grow more as characters and that these guys might end up killing some Titans if they have the chance. From the minor characters, the ones that I like so far are Sasha (aka Potato Girl), Reiner and Annie. As for the rest, it might take some time to like them, especially Jean.

Jean here is like Eren's opposite, all he wants is to enjoy a comfortable life that is why he went to military school and worked hard to get the best grades so that he can be part of the Military Police. This is when we all get hit by the irony of this show's military; it is like they are training the best Titan killers so that they can enjoy a comfortable life. I mean, only the top 10 graduates can become part of the Military Police! If you are not part of the top 10, you have no choice but to join either the Survey Corps or the Garrison.

Finally, it is time for graduation and thanks to his hard work and perseverance, Eren graduated 5th of his class. What's weird about their batch is that the two idiots manage to be part of the top 10! As for Jean, he ranked lower than Eren. Now comes the decision part, will Eren still want to be part of the Survey Corps or will he become part of the Military Police? Not surprising, Eren sticked with his first choice. But what made it great is how Eren showed his fellow batch mates why he made that choice even if there is no hope in defeating these Titans. His speech is probably, one of the best anime speeches I heard, it doesn't sound cliché like most speeches but it makes you do the right choice.

At the end, some were moved with his speech and decided to join the Survey Corps, and that includes those guys who originally wanted to become part of the Military Police. Guess all is well that ends well, that is until a Colossal Titan appeared in front of them. For the first time after five years, Eren finally meet one of the Titans. Is he strong enough to defeat one of them? Or will he end up repeating the events that happened five years ago?
