Choudenshi Bioman 10 – Goodbye, Yellow!

Doctor Man has gathered an energy known as Anti-Bio Particles that is made to counter Bioman's Bio Particles! Using the Bio Killer Gun, Mason tested it on the Bio Robo and got great results as it depleted the power of the Bio Robo! Mason then used it on the Bioman and the one that got his is Yellow Four! Can Yellow Four survive this predicament?

Before watching the actual episode, I am quite aware on what will happen in this episode. It's on Wikipedia and all the Sentai blogs that I read talked about her death, the death of Mika Koizumi aka Yellow Four. I am also aware that in the English-Filipino dub of the series, the Biomen swore that they will avenge her death. I am also aware that it made a lot of impact to the Filipino kids who grew up watching it, a perfect example is renowned Filipino author Bob Ong that sort of made a reference of the Yellow Four character when he did a chapter about Japanese superheroes in his book entitled, "Judas' Favorite Book".

But there is one fact that I am not aware of, the fact that Son Goku's voice actress provided Yellow Four's voice in this episode and Yellow Four appeared in this episode in suit! As for her performance, she did a great job as Yellow Four's voice stand-in in this episode that I don't mind if she will do Yellow Four's voice for at least 2-3 more episodes and have stock footage of Mika run around like what they did to Hiroshi Fujioka back when he had a bike injury while filming Kamen Rider and have a fill-in voice actor for his voice.

Unlike Hiroshi Fujioka's case in Kamen Rider, in this case, Yellow Four's actress just left the team. The reason why she left is still unknown. Some say that she left the show is because of some payment issue, some say the reason behind it is because of her health. Until now, fans have no idea what happened to her after Bioman. As far as I can remember, her cast members tried contacting her but they failed. So yeah, we are not aware if she is still alive or not.

Now that I am done with this rather brief introduction about this episode, it is time to talk about the actual episode. For an episode that didn't have any proper build up, this episode is fantastic as it establishes one element in the series that we might see it make a comeback later in the series. It is in the form of the Anti-Bio Particles. These particles do what it says; it is against the Biomen's Bio Particles as it disintegrates these particles, causing the ones that contain the particles to weaken. As seen in this episode, the more a Bioman is shot (in this case, Yellow Four), the weaker it gets. But Yellow Four will not die without giving up!

Even in her weakened state, she tries to figure out the capacity of the Bio Killer Gun by using her Super Electron Hologram and notice that just like every gun, the amount of Anti-Bio Particles are also depleting. With all her strength, she informs the Biomen about it and she succeeded. Even if that is the case, Yellow Four continues to receive the Anti-Bio Particle shots for her team. That scene where she is receiving the shots for her team members gave me chills, its one heroic scene that even her teammates are surprised with her move.

At the end, the gun lost all the Anti-Bio Particles, Yellow Four is now really weak, a Mecha Giant is still running lose, Bio Robo is still regenerating and there are only four Biomen left standing. This is the part of the episode that feels like they can stop here and have a resolution episode next week but nope, they decided to wrap it all up in this episode. I know, I don't want to give up hope with Yellow Four's fate and I know that Yellow Four will soon die but the show just hit the 10th episode mark and that the Bio Robo is slowly regenerating it's lost Bio Particles. If the Bio Robo can regenerate such particles, Yellow Four can also do it if given the time!

The four Biomen continues to fight Psygorn and the Mecha Clones and win at the very end. Aside from seeing a new move of Red One's Fire Sword, the Bio Robo properly operated even without Yellow Four's help. At the end, they defeated the Mecha Giant and then comes the time of mourning for Yellow Four's death. The execution of Yellow Four's death is really fantastic that until now, I still can't believe that Yellow Four has just died. Her final scene in the series is so beautiful, even though she didn't send her final words to her heroes; the Bio Robo helped her with it by activating her Super Electron Brain to send her final message to our heroes.

The one that is most devastated and just like me, hopefully that Yellow Four, no, Mika is still alive is Hikaru. Just the sight of her Super Electron Brain functioning again gave her hope that she is still alive only to lose it again after understanding that this is Mika's final message. With Mika's departure, our heroes decided to continue to fight to protect our planet Earth, like what Mika wanted since the day she decided to become a Bioman. To protect the African wildlife that she loved about our beautiful planet. I guess this is the part in the English-Filipino dub that they changed the dialogue into avenging Mika's death.

Between the two, I prefer the original Japanese dialogue, granted that adding the revenge factor in Mika's death added the drama in the series but them swearing to protect the planet as what Mika wished has more impact to me compared to revenge. Mika's spirit will live to our heroes as they carry her corpse to a proper burial place. Even with her death, our heroes must continue their fight against the New Gear Empire! Continue your fight, Choudenshi Bioman!
