Choudenshi Bioman 11 – The Second Yellow Four

Still grieving because of Mika's death, the Biomen are busy looking for her replacement so that the team will be back in full strength. The Bio Robo detected a Bio Particle signal but the problem is a Mecha Giant is on the loose! Can the Biomen find the new warrior and who is this new warrior?

Who am I joking, instead of hiding Mika's replacement in the opening credits; her replacement is included in the opening credits, ruining the thrill about the identity of the new warrior! The name of the new Yellow Four is Jun Yabuki and based on the opening credits, she is an archer. Now that we know her identity, what's left is if she can surpass Mika for being a badass in her own right. In addition, if her debut episode is as good as the first debut episode.

But before talking about Jun's debut, one thing to point out in this episode is that Peebo actually pointed out of a possibility those original youths who were showered by Bio Particles has more than one active descendant, which makes sense considering that incident happened centuries ago! To put it simply, the first five Biomen are the ones closest to were the Bio Robo send in his signal to summon the descendants of the five youths showered with Bio Particles. So let me get this straight, there is a possibility that the Bioman might be composed of more than five members? Sounds interesting.

In Jun's case, she was abroad when the Bio Robo send in the signal for the descendants of the five youths. Now that she is back, it is time to fulfill her destiny as a Bioman after her distant relative died to save her friends from the Anti-Bio Particles. The Biomen's search for Jun felt a bit pointless, the only thing that they know is that a Bio Particle signal is located somewhere but where is it and who possesses this signal? Is it a boy or a girl?

This is when Jun comes in as she saved Hikaru from Farrah, Farrah Cat and Mestler from their attack with her arrow. My first impression on Jun is that she is too cute to be considered a badass. As for her archery skills, I am impressed, really impressed. Even though she didn't transform, she was able to hit all of her target Mecha Clones! What's more, she witnessed the transformation of the Biomen and now wants to have her own Techno Brace! To put it simply, she is Mika's opposite in terms of wanting to become a hero. To give you a refresher, Mika didn't want to become a Bioman until she was convinced by her teammates that becoming a Bioman is the best way to protect the African wilderness that he and her brother loved.

Because of this attitude and possibly, because the Biomen are not yet aware that she is the one who has the Bio Particles, Shiro refused to give her a Techno Brace. Instead he told her about Mika's fate and that having a Techno Brace is a big responsibility. To put it simply, it is now up to Jun if she is still willing to fight as a Bioman after learning the big shoes she has to fill in and the responsibility of being a superhero.

Much to their surprise, during the time they Biomen were attacked by Farrah later in the episode, she appeared and shoots some Mecha Clones! Her determination of becoming a Bioman is really amazing that she is slowly becoming one of my favorites in this series. The rest of the Biomen decided to escape from their opponents so that they can save the Bio Robo who is currently being attacked by the Mecha Giant. Inside Bio Robo's cockpit, Peebo then detects a Bio Particle signal that they found earlier is now becoming strong.

As it turns out, it is Jun who decides to follow them! Thankfully, her passport fell and finally, Shiro concluded that she is the one they are looking for! We then learned that she stayed in Europe for a year to train for her archery skills. Which part of Europe she decide to train? That she didn't reveal during this meeting but whatever place in Europe she trained, that place did a great job in honing her archery skills. She is then taken by the Bio Robo just like what happened to the other Biomen and have this weird eye contact scene, giving us fans an assurance that she is indeed the new Yellow Four. I mean, what if she is the descendant of the youth who might end up becoming Red One?

Now that we are sure that she is the new Yellow Four, she then receives her own Techno Brace and transform into Yellow Four! The first thing I notice is that her transformation sequence is just the same footage like that of Yellow Four. We didn't see her own scene were her arms are raised before some electric energy will give her Bio suit. Jun's first fight as the new Yellow Four is something that is not surprising, she is a rookie superhero and the only skill she had prior to becoming a Bioman is archery.

Mestler also has something new in his sleeve as he can replicate himself and this is when we saw our heroes carry their own lightsabers to fight Mestler! Though their attacks are useless, thanks to Yellow Four's Super Electron Holograph, she was able to find the real Mestler and shoot it with her new Bio Arrow! To sum it all up, compared to Mika, Jun is a more seasoned fighter in terms of skill and I see a lot of potential in her. Heck, I will not be surprised if she can surpass Mika after 10 episodes in terms of badassery! The fact that she just arrived in Japan and decided to save some girl she didn't meet by shooting her arrow to the attackers alone shows her potential to become a badass.

After this scene, we have the giant fight with the Bio Robo and since we have a new Yellow Four, it is now in full power and they defeated the Mecha Giant. Because she is now part of the Bioman, she is now staying in the Bio Base! With the arrival of a new Yellow Four, what will be her impact? Will her teammates compare her to Mika or she will have confidence issues that the previous Yellow Four left big shoes for her to fill in?

Before ending this review, I decided to check the episode preview for this episode. Much to my surprise, they cut at least two or three scenes from the preview in this episode! I guess they need to fit the main plot of the episode for 19 minutes and 59 seconds. In terms of the new opening sequence, like what I have said earlier in this review, it spoiled us the identity of the new hero. Guess this is a lesson for them to learn once they try to introduce a new hero once the series reached the 10th episode mark. The new ending sequence just removed Mika out of the picture and replaces it with Jun, though I didn't notice a clip of Jun cleaning the Bio Robo in the new ending sequence.
