Rayman Creator: Nintendo's Greatest Strength is Also its Weakness

Well this is interesting. Rayman creator Michel Ancel talked about his thoughts in the Official Nintendo Magazine. In the interview, he commented that Nintendo's greatest strength is also its weakness.

I quote:

Nintendo's greatest strength, and its greatest weakness, is innovation. It’s a company that takes a lot of risks. Few people understand that innovation involves risk-taking, because you don't control everything on the market.

Today, the biggest surprises seem to come from Nintendo. People may like those surprises or not, but that's a fact. Miiverse was a surprise, the GamePad was a surprise. What will come next? I can't wait!

Do you agree with his comment about Nintendo's greatest strength and weakness? In your opinion, what do you think is Nintendo's strength and weakness?

Nintendo President Talks About the Challenge in Bringing Pokémon Overseas

In the B Dash Camp that happened in Osaka, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata talked about Nintendo and some interesting bits about Pokémon.

Iwata revealed the challenge they faced when they tried to bring Pokémon overseas and that includes if Americans can accept cute monsters. He revealed.

Will America accept cute monsters? No, they said. Some people even recommended to make Pikachu more muscular. If we followed their advice Pokemon would never have been the success that it was. Brain Training software (Brain Age) became a hit in Japan, and I proposed that we sell it globally. And even as I said that as the president, no one listened.

To read the full coverage of Satoru Iwata's talk about Nintendo, you can read it on The Bridge. [READ IT HERE.]

Former Nintendo President Hiroshi Yamauchi Passed Away

Former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi has passed away at the age of 85 because of pneumonia. He is the president of Nintendo from 1949-2002.

Yamauchi is the man that led the company through it's great transition form a maker of children's toys and card games, to one of the greatest video game companies in history. It is under his reign that the company's NES (Famicom) system saved the video game industry after the video game industry crash back in the 80's.

Since then, the video game industry continues to flourish and become what it is today. It is also under his reign that Nintendo introduced the GameBoy, one of the first handheld consoles in history.

From all of us here, thank you for your contributions in the video game industry.

Nintendo 2DS Announced

Nintendo announced via Kotaku the latest member of the Nintendo 3DS family! The Nintendo 2DS is basically your average 3DS without the 3D and perfect for entry level gamers.

Just like its predecessors, it has two screens that are the same size as those of the original 3DS and still retain the same features of the original 3DS. The system is also compatible with all DS and 3DS games, giving gamers a wider access to a vast number of titles.

Unlike the 3DS and its predecessors, the 2DS doesn't feature the clamshell design, instead it features a slate design. Even if that is the case, just like the 3DS, it uses a rechargeable internal battery and a stylus the same size like that of a 3DS XL.

The Nintendo 2DS will be available starting on October 12 in North America, just time for the release of the new Pokemon games. The 2DS costs $129.99, cheaper than a 3DS and 3DS XL. Lastly, a European release of this handheld is also planned, plans for a release in Japan is still unknown.
