In another news, DeSanto, along with Bradley Cramp are currently writing the story for a new graphic novel that serves as the re-imagination of the classic manga Cyborg 009 "from a modern, Western aesthetic." Art will be handled by Marcus To (Red Robin).
The creative team, have spent the last six months developing the new book by taking the important elements of the original manga and presenting a fresh and modern story that can appeal to a worldwide audience.
DeSanto commented:
“With the world in love with superheroes and superhero movies, the timing is perfect for a re-introduction of Ishinomori’s creations. [...] The book was created during the Cold War and its themes of teamwork and global co-operation still resonate in today’s culture and climate. The book was clearly ahead of its time.”The new Cyborg 009 graphic novel will be published by Archaia Publishing, teaming up with Ishimori Production Inc., and slated to be released around Comic-Con 2013.
In the original Cyborg 009 manga, the secret Black Ghost organization transforms nine unsuspecting humans into cyborgs. However, the nine cyborgs turn on their masters and protect the rest of humanity from Black Ghost's plans for world war.
