Kamen Rider Gaim 03 – The Banana Knight Rises

Now that everyone knows the existence of Armored Rider Gaim, it seems that Team Gaim is skyrocketing to the top spot of the rankings. With this, it seems that Team Baron might end up falling in the rankings that is until Sid offers Kaito an offer he can't resist.

But before talking about that, the series is now starting to focus on Micchy and his ordinary life in the first few minutes of the episode. Considering that he will eventually transform into Armored Rider Ryugen, it makes sense that the series will start having scenes focused on his life. This focus on Micchy showed us a different aspect on Zawame City; that this city is indeed divided into two social classes and those who are living at the upper class don't care about what's happening on those who are on the lower class.

As for Micchy in this episode, we learned that he is a rich kid, he is at the top of his class and he has a crush on Mai that he tries to hide. I am interested on how they will handle Micchy's double life here, considering that it is kinda implied that Kouta is aware of it and how his classmates will react once they will discover that he is participating in those Inves Games as a member of Team Gaim. As for the romance part, I am pretty sure that they might end up dropping it later in the series, considering how they foreshadowed in the opening sequence Micchy's story in this show is more on his relationship with his brother, Takatora.

Because of what happened in the previous episode, Kouta decided to quit all of his jobs and dedicate himself with the Inves Games as a full-time member of Team Gaim. What I find interesting is how Mai reacted to it, I mean, I kinda expected that she will welcome Kouta back with open arms, but nope, she starts talking about responsibility and why his decision is a bad one. I can understand where Mai is getting into because Kouta did a lot for his former team that it seems that he is not doing something for himself.

But that's not how his sister reacted. Even though Kouta is having fun and enjoying the Inves Games as Armored Rider Gaim, and even earns money from it, his sister is not happy about it. Her reason is that what he is doing is something that doesn't qualify as a job. From what I understand, a job for her is something that can be summed up as grunt work that you might not enjoy. If that's the case, then acting on TV is not a job or being a model is not a job if you are enjoying it. It didn't help that Kouta didn't state his point on why the money he earned from the Inves Games is legitimate. The only point from her sister that I can understand is that she can't accept money from a source that she is not sure will last for more than a year.

Observing Kouta actions, Kaito noticed that Team Gaim is not on the offensive stance when it comes to taking territories, that these guys are just protecting their turf and not expanding it. This caused Kaito to be pissed and challenged Kouta in a fight and this is when things start to become interesting. As it turns out, Kaito managed to purchase a Sengoku Driver and a Lock Seed from Sid, allowing him to transform into Armored Rider Baron!

The reaction of the crowd is probably, the best part of his debut. The surprised looked on their faces when they see that Gaim is not the only Armored Rider around is really amazing. What's more is how one of Kaito's men reacted that his fruit is well, a banana. It's hilarious and just poked fun on how ridiculous this show's gimmick is. Kaito's transformation pose is quite simple and basically screams, "I am a badass. See me beat that orange guy." In short, it's simply looks cool. As for Baron's suit design, the banana parts are really noticeable, unlike Gaim's suit design, which they manage to hide the orange parts properly.

Now that the two Riders are transformed, it is time for Baron's debut fight, but first, the two Armored Riders received some new Lock Seeds from Sid that transforms into their personal bikes. These bikes are seriously portable and I like it, it didn't help that the transformation sequence looks really cool. The first fight between Gaim and Baron ends up becoming a bike race and I am okay with it. The way they filmed the scene is really well done, but things start to become more interesting when the meter of their bikes reached 999, causing them to be transported in the Helheim Forest.

What's cool is that they just continued the race and didn't ask any questions until they are being attacked by Inves monsters. This is when we finally see his first fight and to be honest, he kinda sucked. He is just using his spear as a sword and not well, a spear! As for the way he finished the Inves monsters, it looks cool and ridiculous at the same time. Ridiculous because a large banana appeared once he stabs the monster, and cool because the finisher is basically him cutting the banana in multiple pieces. As for Gaim, he is cool in this episode and that's about it. Episode ends and they are still stuck in the forest.
