Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger 28 – The Truth About Torin

King's father returns briefly just to give his son some more stones and talks about trusting Torin. Speaking of Torin, it seems that his connection with the Deboth Legion goes beyond his rivalry with Chaos.

Before talking about the main contents of this episode, let's first talk about some of the minor stuff. First is that each Kyoryuger now has six Beast Batteries and the other Kyoryuger Beast Batteries now has at least 3 copies. In short, we have more opportunities for some mix and matching of Beast Battery abilities, which is something the episode did. The current combinations of the other Kyoryuger Beast Batteries are not that interesting. Hopefully, they can start playing more of these combinations in later episodes.

Now that I am done with the Beast Batteries, it's time to talk about the plot. First is about King's dad, aside that it confirms that his father is good friends with Torin. Though it's not quite a fatherly scene, at least it gives us subtle hints that King's dad care for his son and why he should trust his friend. After King gives Torin the stones that his father requested him to give to Torin, Deboth's attack in this episode begins.

The Deboth attack is quite interesting. Aside from the combination of happiness and hatred, Endorf is asking Canderrilla of doing a favor for him. The said favor has something to do with singing a darker version of her song of joy. The darker version of the song of joy is really great and it is used to "control" Torin. Basing it on the song's lyrics, it's about unleashing the "monster" inside of all of us and it is about "treason" and "betrayal". Seeing Torin powerless against Endorf is a really nice scene and shows us how powerful this song can be if it is used properly.

While this is all happening, the Kyoryugers are busy neutralizing the Debo Monster. Which made me wonder for a bit, where is Yayoi while this is all happening? I mean, she can fight Endorf while the Kyoryugers are busy with the Debo Monster. But I stopped wondering after we learned that they have no idea where Torin went after he left the valley. It didn't help that Dogold revealed that the Debo Monster is just a distraction so that the Deboth Legion can capture Torin. Now I start to wonder, why the heck Dogold helped the Kyoryugers? I know, he hates Endorf but I think it goes something much deeper than that considering he is loyal to Chaos... or is he?

The Kyoryugers finally find Torin being tortured by the Deboth Legion. Aside from the torture, a brief back story about why Chaos' has a missing "horn" in his armor, is the truth about Torin. He is something that Dark Species Deboth created and is Chaos' younger brother. This is one twist that surprised me. I mean, I didn't expect that Torin is some space alien and is originally part of the group of aliens who destroy worlds. But thinking about it, it kinda makes sense. It's not like birdmen exist during the time of the dinosaurs. Also, Candy and Luckyuro's designs are something that you didn't expect to see in a villain group.

To give us a proof that Torin is originally part of the bad guys, we learned more about the properties of the regenerative water. Turns out it only works on something created from Deboth. In short, we have a giant Torin rampaging and our heroes must stop him. But I think the best part about it is that our heroes didn't feel like they are betrayed by Torin for hiding this from them. Instead, they feel like Torin is suffering while he is rampaging and that they will do everything to save him.

The episode ends and our heroes are still fighting the giant Torin. As for Utchy, he wants to get one of Luckyuro's shrinking balls to revert Torin back to normal. But with Endorf and co. in Luckyuro's side, is Utchy enough to get a single shrinking ball? Also, what will happen to Torin at the end of this clash as we see him injured by the Kyoryuzin?
