Mirai Sentai Timeranger 09 – The Don's Dilemma

And suddenly, the mainstream media.

After 9 episodes (or 9 weeks), the media is starting to notice the Londarz family and the Timerangers and our heroes are starting to become more cautious about their new found fame. Meanwhile, Don Dornheiro's old friend, Arnuld K the crooked cop was thawed out of cyrostasis and wants to help an old friend... and Lira and Gien hates this guy for being too close to the Don.

There are a couple of things that was revealed in this episode, such as Ayase hasn't got his license, which I find ironic since the guy is a former race car driver! Also, we got a glimpse on how the other Timerangers do their regular jobs as part of Tomorrow Research. Back to Ayase, I find it really funny that the guy intentionally made some mistakes in his driver's exam just to show his instructor that he barely had practice driving a car! But his driving is not what interest me, but what happened after it.

Arnuld compared to the rest of the prisoners of the Londarz detention facility, he is just a crooked cop. He extorts money from civilians and thinks highly of himself since hey, he is a cop and he is the law or should I say, was the law since he was arrested for cooperating with a mafia boss and his corruption. In terms of weaponry, he has the standard equipment of every police officer, so yeah; he is basically a monster cop.

While the Timerangers are busy with Arnuld, a female journalist is taking photos of the Timerangers fighting and by the look and feel of the journalist, she is the annoying, intrepid type, the one who will try to dig up every single information about the subject that leads to over information about it and by the looks of it, she will be a recurring character in the series.

Back to the Londarz family, Arnuld's attitude is getting to the nerves of Lira and Gien and it seems they want to kill the man. This was when we saw more of the Don's other side. For most of the time, we always see him smoke his tobacco and just stay relaxed. This was one of those moments that he had a hard time in terms of making a decision. Will he side with his allies who are quite helpful for the long run or side with his best friend whose been there for him since they are kids? His dilemma led to something interesting as he gave his best bud a new gun, which I don't find weird until later.

During Arnuld's second encounter with the Timerangers, aside from seeing more of those stop motion fights (if that's the term), the new gun that he attached exploded after he pulled the trigger! At first I was suspecting that Gien is responsible with this but after his chat with Lira that he didn't do it, it made conclude that the Don was responsible for it and I was right, he is indeed the mastermind! The Don's reasoning on why he decided to sacrifice his friend is really understandable.

Arnuld is just a crooked cop, he can't do a lot to the family in the long run and that he is the cause of strife the family is experiencing right now. In short, it is best for him to put into cyrostasis. Even if that's the case, the Don still cares for Arnuld as he rather see him put in cyrostasis rather than see him dead in the hands of his men. Remember that a person is not dead in cyrostasis but just compressed into a small figure that is obviously their version of cold sleep. To put it simply, he still cares for his friend's life.

The giant battle in this episode is really amazing as we see Time Robo Beta for more than a few minutes and see more of this gun slinging formation in action while fighting Arnuld. Because of this, I was expecting that the Beta formation has its own cyrostasis finisher but nope, the Alpha formation is the one who performed the finisher. After they sealed Arnuld in a container, the same journalist from earlier continues to bother the Timerangers about who they are and what they do. As expected, they refuse to give a comment about it since hey, the Timerangers originally appeared in that timeline in the first place and adding more info about them might disrupt the space and time continuum!

Aside from the media, the government, to be exact, the police are aware of the Timeranger's existence, especially after the media started speculating that the Timerangers are the government's secret police. I was surprised to the reply of the police that they are not associated with the Timerangers since most cops that I know in mass media will either try to cover the story up or claim that these masked heroes are working for them. As for the rest of the Timerangers, they are fine with the media thinking that they are some secret police. At least it will lessen the misunderstanding with the general public! Funny, Kamen Rider Kuuga was airing alongside with Timeranger during that time had some police involvement.

The episode ends with the Timerangers celebrating Ayase finally having his own license but something odd is happening to Ayase, he started to feel chest pains. What is the meaning of these chest pains?

Lastly, the human form of Hercules Zodiarts is Kagehito Banba, he created the Zebar for Sannagiman. He seems to have an ulterior motive.

Kyoryuu Sentai Zyuranger 31 – The Rebirth of Ultimate DaiZyuJin

BUY OUR TOYS!

SatanFranken is giving the Zyurangers a hard time that lead us to the summoning of the Dragon Caesar, only to fail at the end. The creature spewed some strange liquid that can melt any metal and the only way to save the DaiZyuJin and the Dragon Caesar is to restore the Ultimate DaiZyuJin, the form that beat Great Satan centuries ago! Can the Zyurangers restore the Ultimate DaiZyuJin before it's too late?

Compared to the previous episode, SatanFranken's attacks are really interesting that caused the DaiZyuJin and the Dragon Caesar to fall and sooner, they will disintegrate if the Zyurangers can't restore the Ultimate DaiZyuJin. Clotho returns in this episode as the one who revealed that Burai has 25 hours left to live and that they need the Ultimate DaiZyuJin to beat Great Satan. Clotho's explanation about the Ultimate DaiZyuJin makes more sense compared to what we have in the previous since the only explanation we have is DaiZyuJin defeated Great Satan years ago.

Clotho finally explained why Burai's has only hours to live, unlike what I theorized the reason why Burai lost his life was because he stayed in the Timeless Room, it turns out it was quite the opposite. He died before he had a chance to kill the Zyurangers thanks to the ice age (which explains the snow that covered Burai's body) and that the DaiZyuJin asked Clotho to give him some lives so that they can restore the Ultimate DaiZyuJin. Wait a second, if DaiZyuJin asked Clotho to revive Burai so that they can restore the Ultimate DaiZyuJin, then why the heck he commanded Geki to kill his own brother for the sake of justice (!) in the first place? This caused me to believe that DaiZyuJin is that jerk who likes to change his mind occasionally.

While Clotho is explaining about the Ultimate DaiZyuJin and Burai's life, SatanFranken is busy making more casualties as the gas that he released can slowly kill humans. With that in mind, they don't have much time and they must head north to find a way to restore Ultimate DaiZyuJin and they have some obstacles to face for them to restore the Ultimate DaiZyuJin. The obstacles they faced are something I expect them to face; they have sick kids, Grifforzer and Lami's troops and a cliff with each of these obstacles showing us the best qualities of our heroes.

The sick kids obstacle showed us Geki's leadership skills and how can Mei and Boi handle it, the Grifforzer and Lami's troops obstacle showed us the fighting skills of the Zyurangers with a greater focus on Dan, Goushi and Burai, which by the way showed their distinct fighting style that I keep on ignoring or they just don't show it that much. Lastly, the cliff obstacle showed Geki's determination to fulfill their goal and his resolve as a leader.

Because of Geki's resolve to jump the cliff, the Zyurangers are transported to a place where they see a slab with six holes in which they need to insert their medal after telling their individual mission. The scene was really great, it showed us the resolve of each Zyuranger to their mission as they realize that they are actually doing their mission without them being aware that they are doing it, they just need to realize what they are doing. Each of their missions reflects who they are and their missions are: Mei is the Warrior of Love, Boi is the Warrior of Hope, Dan is the Warrior of Courage, Goushi is the Warrior of Wisdom, Burai is the Warrior of Power and Geki is the Warrior of Justice. Much to my disappointment, Geki didn't have his own realization scene like the rest of the Zyurangers.

Now that they know their mission, it is time for the revival of the Ultimate DaiZyuJin! But before we focus on the Ultimate DaiZyuJin, they first showed the combination of the DaiZyuJin and the Dragon Caesar, the Sovereign DaiZyuJin, which is basically having the Dragon Caesar as DaiZyuJin's coat. No seriously, that's the best way to describe it; it's so lazy that it made the GouZyu GokaiOh from Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger a bit creative. The moves of the Sovereign DaiZyuJin namely the Empire Attack and Kaiser Burst are just strong laser attacks with the later, a compression of energy that they release in one shot.

The Ultimate DaiZyuJin is one of the best looking final mechas that I saw in Super Sentai. This seven-piece mecha formation looks really good and has this aura of a king riding his chariot. The finisher, the Grand Banisher is just simply the Ultimate DaiZyuJin shooting every single cannon the machine had. They were able to beat the SatanFranken and Great Satan because of these two new combinations. At the end, the kids are safe and that our heroes obtained the Ultimate DaiZyuJin, a combination that beat Great Satan. So in case Great Satan is revived later in the series, our heroes are ready to face him.

Kamen Rider Wizard 07 – About Moving On Again

This is my face while watching this episode.

After they learned that Manami is a con artist, the boys are grieving about it. As for Haruto and Rinko, they continue to find Manami who is planning to run away from the Phantom.

The episode bored me for reasons that I find the episode a bit preachy about Manami's past and how she ended up becoming a con artist. I have no problems about them telling how she became a con artist but repeating the same lesson we learned from the previous story arc about moving on to the past and start living to the present? Wow, the writing team is bit lazy about thinking what morals to incorporate in a certain story arc!

About Manami's past, it properly connects on what was foreshadowed in the previous episode except that we have a proper explanation about what happened to the past that caused her to become a con artist. To put it simply, her father was con by a con artist that caused them to lose their house and she decided to become a con artist just for her to earn enough money to buy the same house that her family lost from a con artist. Wow, the writing for this episode went from lazy to full retarded. I am not sure what was running on the writer's mind when s/he wrote the episode but turning Manami into a con artist just because she lost her house from a con artist was a bit silly and dumb to be honest.

Even though the plot for this episode is a bit ridiculous, they were able to make up for it with the fights. The fights are really creative especially when Gnome fought Wizard in those large cement tubes. Also, the way how Wizard used his Rings in this episode was also really great especially how he used his various array of rings from putting out fires and how he used his fighting skills for him to force Gnome to wear the Smell Ring that can greatly affect his sense of smell, one of his strong points as a Phantom that helped him track down Manami's location in a jiffy. In addition, Wizard continues to pull more wresting moves in this episode and I really like it.

The biggest surprise in this episode is the finisher, I mean; he can pull off some combo ring magic?! It's a bit surprising since for most of the time, he used single ring to do his moves but seeing him used the Kick Strike Ring and the Drill Ring, I wonder if we can see some interesting Wizard Ring move combos in later episodes... or this is just a one-shot deal since the enemy is best in hiding underground and they need a finisher that can defeat an enemy that is hiding underground.

The episode ends with the guy that he coned earlier deciding to help Manami buy her house just as long as she pays him properly without coning someone. As for Phoenix, after learning that the Gnome is defeated, he is pissed off and seriously wants to fight Wizard right now. Before ending this review, here are some things that I need to note about. First is that Rinko's detective skills are seriously useful in this episode since after her debut, we only see her guard the current Gate and that's about it. Second is that they hinted bits about Haruto's past, which might be brought up in later episodes.
