Kamen Rider Gaim: New Riders, Staff & More Revealed


New information for the 15th Heisei Kamen Rider series, Kamen Rider Gaim was posted in the official TV-Asahi site the press conference that happened today. The series is set to premiere this October 6th.

The series takes place in an emerging city apparently controlled by a corporate giant. Bored kids used street dance to pass time and also summon small monsters from another dimension called Inbess and hold secret battles. But there are risks in using these as larger holes became a passage for larger and powerful monsters to get to our world. This is when Kamen Rider Gaim and his friends come and save the day!


Kota Kazubara aka Kamen Rider Gaim (played by Gaku Sano) was the #2 of the Team Gaim dance team but left the group to get a proper job for the sake of his elder sister. He's a kind-hearted individual who gets stuck into other people's problems. He finds the Sengoku Driver by accident.

He uses the Orange Lock Seed and Pineapple Lock Seed for him to gain access with the Orange Arms and Pineapple Arms in battle. His catchphrase is, "Passing through the audience, On Stage!"


Kaito Kumon aka Kamen Rider Balon (played by Yutaka Kobayashi) is the leader of the rival team, Team Balon. Coming from a poor family, he believes that "Weak people will be exploited by the weak" has been ingrained in him from a young age.

This banana themed Rider with a Western style armor sees society as a persecutor and trains himself to be a stronger leader to face this society.


Mitsuzane Kuwashima aka Kamen Rider Ryugen (played by Mahiro Takasugi) is a member of Team Gaim is kinda like a little brother figure to Kota whom he respects. A member of the ruling Yggdrasil Corporation's ruling family, he attends an elite high school, a fact that he hides from his friends.

This grape themed Rider donning a Chinese style armor doesn't want to follow the established path of his own future and seeks to find a way to live freely.


Takatora Kuwashima aka Kamen Rider Zangetsu (played by Yuki Kubota) is Mitsuzane's older brother and a big wig in the ruling Yggdrasil Corporation. He's biting and a ruthless realist who doesn't choose how to reach his goals, but he loves his family and is lenient on his younger brother.

This melon themed Rider's catchphrase is, "Authorized by divine providence!" Though he didn't appear in the press conference, Oricon reports that a 5th Rider named Kamen Rider Griton will later appeared in the show. This Rider's theme is a coconut.

Just like every Kamen Rider show, it also has an array of supporting cast. First up is Kota's childhood friend, Mai Takatsukasa (played by Yumi Shida) is a headstrong member of Team Gaim and a professional dancer. Sees Kota as her rival, she actually respects him and might even harbor feelings for him.

Other members of Team Gaim are: Chucky (played by KANON) is a top-level dancer with a head strong streak; Rika (played by MIINA) is the easygoing member of the team who is not as good as Chucky when it comes to dancing; and Rat (played by Ren Ozawa) is the mood maker of the team who prefers more showy performances.


Other members of the rival team, Team Balon are: Zack (played by Gaku Matsuda) is Kaito's loyal and trustworthy second-in-command; and Peko (played by Saku Momose) who plots to win at Imbess Games in makeshift fashion.

Other support characters who are not members of any of the dance teams are: Akira Kazuraba (played by Rika Izumi) is Kota's elder sister and works at a subsidiary of Yggdrasil Corporation. The breadwinner of the household, she acts as a surrogate parent to Kota.

Kiyojiro Bando (played by Yuge Tomohisa) is the owner of a fruit parlor called "Droopers", a place best known for its Parfaits. Regulars of his shop are the members of Team Gaim wherein they get some new information.


Just like other Kamen Rider shows, there are characters who are shrouded with mystery. These characters are: Lock Dealer Sid (played by Kazuki Namioka) who sweet talks youths to buy locks for their Inbess Games. A man shrouded with mystery, he somehow attained a bunch of locks through non-standard means.

DJ Sagara (played by Tomomitsu Yamaguchi) is a pirate radio DJ who is responsible for making Inbess Games fashionable. He also incites the excitement of Beat Riders (youths who like to dance) with his charisma.


The series is produced by Motoi Sasaki (TV Asahi) and Naomi Takebe (Toei) with scripts written by Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero). The series is directed by veteran Heisei Kamen Rider directors Ryuta Tasaki and Takayuki Shibasaki.

Lastly, 4-man Japanese reggae band, Shounan no Kaze will perform Kamen Rider Gaim's theme song.
