Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman 07 – The 45m Elementary School Student

This episode in a nutshell.

A 45 meter tall alien elementary school student is having a rampage because Dorongos paid him to do that! As it turns out, the alien elementary school student is bad in math that is why he agreed with Dorongos' proposal. With that in mind, Kasumi, who happens to be a math teacher, teaches the alien!

For the past few episodes, the younger Hoshikawa sibling Remi has a lot of focus episodes. It's quite refreshing to see Kasumi in the spotlight for once. Her dedication to teach the alien student reminded us that the Fivemen are a group of sibling heroes who just happen to be teachers, something this show tries to hide for some reason. Aside from having Kasumi in the spotlight, this episode also reminded us that Fumiya knows a lot of languages and serves as the translator for both Kasumi and Saira Gin aka the giant elementary school student. It's kinda cool to listen to Fumiya blabbing nonsense but for some reason, his words make sense to the alien.

As for how Kasumi taught the alien, at first she tried to do the traditional way of teaching with the help of giant pencils, she ended up teaching the alien student a rather non-traditional way thanks to enemy fighter planes charging them and a Gorlin. Before talking about the fighter plane math, let's talk about the Gorlin. What's surprising is that the Gorlin can actually absorb living organic matter! For the past episodes, we keep on seeing it absorbing dead MOTWs, but this episode shed some light that the Gorlin can do more than just that, it can actually absorb giant aliens if it is ordered to do so.

Because it is trying to absorb a living organism, of course, it will take some time for the cellular absorption scene to happen. But once it happens, we see the difference between absorbing a dead MOTW and a living creature. Absorbing a living creature takes a lot of time, especially if the organism doesn't want to get absorbed. Thankfully, the Fivemen formed the Five Robo just in time to stop the absorption process. Now comes the fun part of the episode, Elementary Math with Ms. Kasumi Hoshikawa.

Though the scene kinda looks a bit cheesy, I just love that they need to shoot enemy fighter planes to teach the young Saira Gin addition and subtraction. It's kinda cute to see a giant alien struggling with his math. At the end, he was able to understand math better thanks to Kasumi's really fun way of teaching it. And thus, the alien leaves the planet now with a mark on his nail, the same way teachers stamp a star on a kid once he did well in class. Hopefully, we will see more of these teacher-student episodes in the series, because I think, this is one of the show's strongest points.

Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman 06 – Hard Working Remi

Why is she is adorable?

Zone's next plan is to turn everyone lazy because Doldora discovered that hard working humans are one of the reasons why the human civilization improved even though their technology is quite inferior compared to the aliens. Well the plan seems quite reasonable. Anyway, one of the victims is Remi's friend, can Remi find and the Fivemen defeat the MOTW that caused all of this?

Much to my surprise, this is yet another Remi focused episode. To be honest, I am not complaining about it for two simple reasons: Remi is one amazing character and second, she is well, my childhood crush and until now, she is one of my crushes. You basically get the idea how I reacted in this episode. As for Zone's plot, much to my surprise, it is not ridiculous. It is quite reasonable and realistic if you are an alien invader. For starters, disabling the human work force can cause a lot of problems, causing humans to be disoriented and if the enemy will strike, they don't have the will and power to fight back.

Much to my disappointment, the Fivemen are not affected of the spores released by the MOTW. I mean, they are showered by it for minutes before transforming for crying out loud! Thankfully, this made sense later in this episode as to how these spores didn't affect our heroes. Speaking of which, because of father of Remi's friend was affected by the spores, she decides to help him. I kinda like this scene, Remi acts like a proper sister figure to the kid and I like the interaction between the two. This gives you this kind of feeling that the Fivemen are approachable if you are a kid.

Another thing, it is also because of this scene why Remi discovered why some humans are affected by the spores. As it turns out, the MOTW hates hard workers! Considering that the Fivemen are not working that hard as superheroes since they are fighting monsters in a weekly basis, it makes sense why they are not affected by the spores. With that knowledge, Remi used it to her advantage in finding the elusive MOTW.

Her plan worked and saw some more of her great fighting skills. She then transformed into Five Yellow and saw that she can still fight even though the MOTW already wrapped her body around. At the end, they were able to defeat the MOTW with a little help coming from her siblings. As for the giant battle, I was a bit shocked when they teleported the sword after 30 seconds of robot punching. Much to my surprise, this is for the sake of showing us more of the sword's dual wielding capabilities!

For an instant, the fight becomes more interesting as we saw some variety in the Five Robo's fight style thanks to the use its use of the sword. More on the sword, I was shocked when I saw that the hole of the sword can be used as a gun! Well that is something you don't see every day! At the end, they were able to defeat the MOTW and that everything is back to normal. One final thing to point out, I just love how Remi points out that she keeps saving the day! I mean, for three straight episodes, it is always her who is trying to save the day! Not that I am complaining or something!

Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman 05 – Of Eggs & Twin Action

Double Action - Black & Yellow Form

In Fiveman's 5th episode, Zone's latest plan has something to do with creating Condor Men... by turning babies into eggs? What?! Speaking of eggs, a galactic egg is looking for his parents and ends up thinking that Dongoros is his daddy! Can the Fiveman save the babies turned eggs?

This is yet again, another crazy episode of Fiveman and this time around, this features the twins Fumiya and Remi! Okay so we have a Remi focused episode last time and now, it is focused on the twins?! I am supposed to complain about it because I love my focus episodes in intervals, like Blue has this focus episode today and next episode is about Pink and etc. But in the case of this episode, I am not disappointed about it because this focus episode has something to do with their parents that they never met.

As we all know, the twins are still babies when their parents died. The only time they knew about them is via pictures, so basically, they understand how the galactic egg feels and what the feeling of not meeting your parents, especially if someone will separate them from you. In this case, we are referring to Zone. Because they are the ones who understand the feelings of the babies better, they are the ones who lured the MOTW by having Fumiya disguise as a baby and Remi as his mother. It's cute seeing Fumiya act like a baby and Remi is cute wearing glasses. So yeah, I can't help but melt every time I see Remi in this episode. You see, I have this glass fetish.

Back to the episode, the plan worked only for the galactic egg to interfere because he decided to save his "daddy"! Yup, the scene is kinda annoying but hey, he is still a kid and he is not aware who his parents are. The only thing that helps him in searching for his parents is his instincts. Because of the said instincts, Fumiya and Remi used it to their advantage when it comes to searching Zone's base in this episode.

Because of the galactic egg's presence, he starts looking for his parents, which leads to the egg getting rejected a couple of times by the members of Zone. The scene is entertaining but it needs to end. Thankfully, Dongoros finally end the egg's annoyance by telling that maybe, he is one of the survivors of one of the planets they destroyed, and thus, he helped the Fivemen by freeing the babies trapped inside the eggs.

Now that the babies are freed, the twins finally transformed. This is when I observed something; Remi's change is different from Fumiya's. Remi's changer is more of a crest rather than a pen-like device. Assuming that Gaku also has the same changer like that of Fumiya's, it is best to assume Remi and her sister have the same kind of changer. Because this is an episode focused on the twins, we see really great action scenes coming from these two. The teamwork of the twins is beautiful and that word basically describes their teamwork, it's beautiful.

After they defeated the MOTW, the giant battle begins. The only thing interesting about it is that we see a lot of punches coming from the Five Robo, to be more specific, flashier punches. After doing the finisher, the giant fight is over and the babies are back to normal and now back to their parents. As for the galactic egg, he will continue to travel the world, looking for his parents, which we are not sure if there are still alive.

Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman 04 – Everybody is Getting Drunk!

Never mess with my first Sentai waifu!

In this episode, Zone's next plot to destroy planet Earth is to get everyone drunk? What?! Anyway, because of the effects of Zone's really silly plot, Remi got drunk but will she let drunkenness be her weakness?

The title of the episode is speaks for itself, it is about Zone making everyone drunk to destroy it. From kids, adults, students, and much to my surprise, dogs! To make it a bit crazier, this episode also featured drunken cars! Yup, this episode is indeed crazy. As for Remi, lucky enough, she is near to the dam where she is training for her kung-fu. This leads us to her fight with Zaza, one of the sub commanders of Zone.

Her fight with Zaza is fun to watch, the out of suit action is great and that's it. What's important about this scene is that she falls on the dam, causing her to get drunk. Now that she is drunk, her siblings are worried if she can still fight in that condition. Much to my surprise, we saw her stand up and figured out a way to fight Zone in this episode.

Applying what she learned from her training and Arthur telling her that she is drunk, we saw her perform a Drunken Fist Kung-Fu style! This my friends is one of the reasons why Remi is my favorite Yellow and one of my childhood Super Sentai crushes until now. It's fun watching a cute kung fu girl do Drunken Fist Kung-Fu! Her fight with the MOTW is seriously fun to watch; the out of suit action is really great and is probably, the strongest points of this series thus far.

After her siblings saw her fight, they got more inspired to finish the MOTW. For quite some time now, aside from the small commercial bumper logo on the right side of the show, I can't help but notice that this is the first Super Sentai series that featured a real time transformation scene, something that Go-Busters tried to revive 22 years later. This made me realize that Fiveman tried to be unique back then, I am not sure why people find the show bad but I guess I will find it out in later episodes.

After defeating the MOTW, it is time for the giant battle. The giant battle in this episode is probably, the most rad and the most unique giant battle I ever saw in my entire life. I mean seriously, aside from letting a drunk woman pilot the Five Robo, the robot is fighting in Drunken Fist Style! I heard about robots doing kung-fu but this is the first time I saw a robot doing Drunken Fist Kung-Fu! It's hard to describe my thoughts about this so it is best for you to watch it. The new finisher involving splitting the sword into two is quite cool and I didn't expect them to this finisher involving Drunken Fist Kung-Fu.

At the end, Arthur formulated an antidote that fixed everyone and that Remi doesn't want to have another drink of liquor just for that day! Well that's expected because she is drinking liquor for the entire day! So yeah, she prefers drinking water now and hopefully, Arthur fixed the issue with the dam so that she will not end up drinking liquor!

Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman 03 – Gaku and his Student

Badass teacher.

One of Gaku's students doesn't want to study in his new school and keeps on bothering his old teacher. Meanwhile, Zone will put to their advantage the fact that the Fivemen love their students so much with the help of Billion's partner, Toraru Gin.

This episode is basically a Gaku and Billion focused episode. It's a Gaku episode in a sense that we see him more as a teacher and how much he cares for his students. It's a Billion episode in a sense that we learned what makes this guy tick, what is running in his mind and most especially, how he thinks of himself. Let's go first with the Gaku parts in this episode. I already expected that he will not lay a finger on his student as seen in this episode; he just lets his student hit him until Toraru Gin leaves the student's body.

Before talking about what happened next, one thing that I would like to note is the amazing use of wires to give us an impression that he has skills beyond of those of a human being. The make-up that we saw occasionally on the kid also gives us an impression that he is possessed by a monster. Now that Gaku knows their plan and that the student is safe for now, it is time to fight Billion and his men. The fight scenes in this one is fantastic and that we saw some great bike action courtesy of the siblings who used some of its weapons. But at the end, Billion continues to use the Fivemen's love for the kids and kidnaps the boy.

This is when we saw Gaku's dedication as a teacher. Even though he is not anymore the kid's teacher, he still continues to care for him. He remembers the day he is being annoyed by him because that's what makes the kid special and will do everything to save him, even if it will cause his freedom. The flashback scene and Gaku's declaration made me say to myself that this show has some badass teachers. Hopefully, we will see more of these badass teacher moments in this series. We all admire teachers as kids and seeing them as a superhero is really something for a kid, and that's what Gaku will do in this episode.

After getting possessed by Toraru Gin when he is trying to save the kid from his possession, we saw Billion's true colors. He is a man who will do anything for the sake of his own ambition. That ambition is to conquer Earth with his own power even if he needs to sacrifice someone that considers him as a friend. To be honest, this trait of his is something I saw in a lot of villains; I don't see anything special in it. Hopefully, they can expand more on the villains since I still find them too generic right now.

Because his supposed friend betrayed him, Toraru Gin declares that he will fight on his own, causing him to possess Billion's body in one amazing motorcycle fight scene. No seriously, the motorcycle action in this episode is fantastic and that includes the fight on Billion's motorcycle. After some brief moment in Billion's body, the Fivemen were able to drive him out of it and finally, defeated it. For some reason, it felt like the episode should end in that part but nope, Billion decides to help his former comrade by enlarging him.

Arthur sends the Five Trailer; the first thing I observe in this thing is the parts of the Five Robo neatly aligned to form a truck. It's kinda cool the way they stored the mecha in this manner. The Five Trailer is kinda like a carrier mecha that is not a carrier mecha in that sense. After the amazing formation sequence, we see something quite neat, the machinery inside Five Robo's metallic skin. It's kinda neat to see that sort of thing in Super Sentai mecha.

Now for the giant fight, it's interesting but what made it really interesting is that they showed us the features of the Five Robo and that includes the cannons on its arm before doing the finisher. At the end, everything is back to normal and that we saw Gaku and his student bond a little more before closing the episode in a really fun note. To sum up my thoughts, we learned that teachers can be badasses if it has something to do with their student. What's interesting is that Gaku barely transformed in this episode, to put it simply, we saw Gaku more as the teacher and not as the superhero. I like this kind of thing and hopefully, they will do it in episodes focusing on kids in the near future.
