Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger 37 – Body Switching Shenanigans feat. Souji

Because of what happened in the previous episode, Souji is practicing Torin's sword style but there seems to be a problem, it's giving a lot of strain to his body. Later, three departed Deboth monsters returns and switched the Kyoryugers around! Can they fix this problem?

So it's a Souji episode and the standard body-switch episode and unlike your standard body-switch episode, all Kyoryugers are being switched around, giving the viewers a hard time on who's on whose body. Because of this kind of problem, we have the Kyoryugers voices being dubbed by the current person who is inside the Kyoryuger's body to make it less confusing. To be honest, I hated it at first because it ruined one factor that makes body-switch episodes fun to watch, the actors trying to act a different character. Granted, they did a great job in preserving the quirks and all, but we didn't witness the characters trying to sound like a different character.

Even if that is the case, this change kinda pays off later in the episode because one of the monsters started to switch them around again. It really help us viewers identify who is currently inside that Kyoryuger's body. Because our characters are switched around, the roll call scene is really fun to watch, and just seeing the background colored explosions are a different color made me giggle a bit.

I also can't help but notice that King is acting more of a field leader in this episode. I mean in most episodes, he just screams about being brave and seeing him order his teammates is one weird sight to see. Even if that's the case, it makes sense why he is doing that, he is now inside Pink's body and as implied in one scene, they will sound like the person that they are currently inside out. In short, King is trying to make himself stand out from the rest of his teammates.

Aside that this is a Souji episode and a body-switch episode, this episode also has some great monster shenanigans; having two of the most disciplined Deboth monsters train a monster created by Luckyuro is really fun to watch. I mean, the comedy already writes itself! Two strict teachers trying to reform some student whose main gimmick is making fall asleep and experience nightmares. What's great about it the return of the strict teacher Deboth Monster that I really loved from Amy's focus episode. His commentaries and his methods of discipline are always fun to watch.

So what about the Souji part of this episode? Most of Souji's part of the episode has something to do with him trying to copy Torin's sword technique. He doing it was kinda hinted in the previous episode and what's surprising about it is that he is so dedicated in perfecting it that his wrist got injured just by doing it! So yeah, that's the Souji focus in this episode, him learning Torin's move and Torin doesn't like it for reasons that this move is too dangerous for a human to master. As for the resolution of this plot, it feels really weak. I mean, it only took one chat with Utchy while he is swapped with the MOTW and that's it. Also, it didn't help that he kinda retracted his statement about why this move is dangerous to humans by personally teaching Souji the move. What the heck Torin?!

Back to the body switching shenanigans, the best part about it is when strict teacher Deboth monster switched bodies with Torin as KyoryuSilver. Like I said, him explaining KyoryuSilver's gear is seriously fun to watch. But thanks to Souji now inside King's really durable body, he destroyed the pillow that switches people around and with that, it's time for the obligatory team finisher and later, the obligatory giant battle. Nothing much to say about those two except the part where the three Deboth monsters died, I just love that they ended the day properly.
