JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 16 – Ripple Master Lisa Lisa

JoJo and Caesar's training in Venice finally begins after we are introduced to Caesar's master, the enigmatic Lisa Lisa. Nobody knows what is running on this person's mind or what training is in store for our heroes. But most importantly, Lisa Lisa is a chick, a very hot chick.

Before talking about what I like about this episode, there is one thing that I am disappointed with this episode, and that is the fact that they weren't able to recreate Joseph's infamous scene of his complaining about the two things he hate the most, hark work and working hard. So yeah, it's the only thing that I can complain in the episode, but the rest is something that got me at the edge of my seat, which is basically the same feeling I have when I read the manga for the first time months ago.

Before we proceed to Lisa Lisa's introduction, we learned from Caesar one important trick when it comes to the Ripple. It is best to focus the Ripple in some focus points to do some really cool tricks. In this case, focusing on your fingertips can allow you to suspend water in a glass cup without it spilling. To put it simply, the Ripple is more than just focusing the energy on your fist and punching it on some rock with a frog on top of it.

Lisa Lisa's introduction already gave us a good impression about her, she is enigmatic and the first thing she did aside from showing us how great is the Ripple is to attach a breathing regulator to Joseph's face! To put it simply, this is to teach Joseph the hard way to breathe properly so that he can use the Ripple properly. Considering that they only have like a month before Joseph dies because of the rings, going with the hard and quick way is the best way to master the Ripple in a short period of time.

After arriving in Lisa Lisa's home town, Air Supplena Island (Air Supply, he he) the training of our heroes officially begins. What better way to start the training by throwing your students in some ditch filled with oil! The training is basically this, climb a 24 meter tall pillar while the oil is dripping in all sides of the walls surrounding the pillar and the pillar itself. Is it me, or this scene has a lot of sexual undertones that will make every single fujoshi smile and scream with glee?

More on this training, for someone to pass this test, he or she must use only the Ripple and Joseph learned it in a very hard way. Seeing Joseph's wit not helping him finish this trial quickly is kinda disappointing but this only made Joseph stronger mentally. It is basically this; Joseph's aim here is to survive because if he will not pass this test, he will die because of starvation. Watching Caesar climb the pillar made him realize the perfect method to climb the pillar with the use of the Ripple. To put it simply, concentrating the Ripple in his fingertips is the best way to climb the wall.

Now that he knows the trick to climb the wall, it is time to work on his progress. As expected, Joseph's progress is kinda slow but hey, at least the guy is making the progress! Now that he is making progress, it is time to catch his breath by clinging on the part of the pillar with a hole in it. Much to his surprise, this hole has a switch that activates a jet of oil that can easily cut someone like butter! So yeah, Joseph's desire to take a break ends up leading them to their demise. But this kind of challenge made Joseph smarter and made Caesar figure a better use of the Ripple.

Caesar's method of passing this trial is really amazing. It is basically him applying two kinds of Ripple just to pass this predicament. It's smart and showed us his level of knowledge when it comes to the Ripple until finally, he passed the test. As for Joseph, he did the thing we expect him to do, do an all or nothing gamble just to pass this predicament. The way he did is really amazing, using his limited knowledge about the Ripple; he was able to pass the predicament. All that's left is to climb the wall that he ended up landing when he did his gamble.

This then leads us to an exchange between Joseph and Caesar that kinda sounds like two lovers quarreling why Caesar doesn't hate Joseph for what he did. So yeah, this scene is seriously made to the girls who ship Joseph and Caesar. With a little help coming from Caesar, Joseph finally passed the test and now, he will do in his power to punish Lisa Lisa for what she did! What's funny is that he ends up thanking her because of the training she gave! Well that was one fast recovery when it comes to a grudge!

Now that we are done with this one, it is time for more training coming from Lisa Lisa with a little help coming from her assistants, Messina and Loggins. The training scene with these two just highlights how they can master their breathing for them to harness the full potential of the Ripple. I like it for the simple reason that the scene just tells us what our heroes need to do, to learn how to master their breathing for them to master the Ripple. They didn't elaborate it by adding filler content to make it more dramatic. Now that they are almost done with the training, it is time for them to face their final test next episode!
