Choudenshi Bioman 13 – I'm Jun!

Alternatively Titled as Why Jun is better than Mika.

Jun's captain decides to look for her after weeks of not reporting about her whereabouts. Meanwhile, Monster, Messer and the rest are now upgraded and that they can even cut the so called "super steel" in half! With this new power, can the Biomen stop them?

To be honest, this episode felt a bit out of place. I mean, Jun first made her appearance in the show's 12th episode and her focus episode comes after an episode about exploding balloons and Green Two being accused of killing someone? It doesn't make much sense! Later I learned that because Mika aka Yellow Four I's departure is not planned by the production staff, they weren't able to do a proper focus episode of the new hero since they already have plans about future episodes. Guess it is quite understandable for their part.

As for the episode itself, it is seriously amazing. For starters, for once, they Biomen can't cut a Mecha Clone in half like paper. In this episode, we see them struggling just to beat a single foot soldier! With that in mind, since these guys are powered up, imagine them fighting two enemy commanders, one member of New Gear Empire's Big Three and the other is one of the Beastnoids that they can't easily kill after it got hit countless times by our heroes. To put it simply, they are doomed to fail. To make matters worse, Jun's archery skills are not enough to defeat the enemy as it deflected it, hitting Red One in the process!

Guilty about it, Jun decides to practice her archery. This is when Jun's archery captain comes in this story. For the past 12 episodes, the series didn't feature a character related to our heroes. In this case, we meet Jun's archery captain who is worried about the whereabouts of one of his members. The only time he discovered about Jun's whereabouts is when he saw Jun practicing in the place where they first meet. Instead of being glad about it, he became furious because Jun's arrows are intended to kill someone. If I were in the captain's position, I will be really worried about Jun because she looks and acts like she will kill someone!

The sad part is that Jun can't answer her captain's queries because she is sworn to secrecy. That she must not tell her parents, friends or relatives that she is a Bioman for their safety. It's one of the elements in this series that they finally clarified. I mean, we barely see the Biomen with other people that are not the victim of the week. The fact that they are sworn to secrecy makes a lot more sense! Because Jun doesn't want her captain to be involved with it, she runs away. As expected, her captain chased her and he is blocked by Shiro and tells him just to trust Jun after one quick scuffle.

Later, the four Biomen faced Monster and co. again, and much to their surprise, the Mecha Clone is easily defeated by a single Bio Punch. To put it simply, the power up can only last for a limited time. With that in mind, Doctor Man sends in the Shark Kans to give them the needed power up. While Shark Kans is flying towards Monster and co., Jun finds them and ends up fighting Messer. The biggest surprise in this one is not Jun showing us why she is better than Mika, even though she was beaten by Messer, is his captain. Yep, her captain stole the spotlight in this episode.

I mean seriously, aside from discovering that Jun is a superhero, he decides to help her with her fight against Gear! His fight against a couple of Mecha Clones is really amazing. What made it cooler is that he shot and to some extent, defeated the one Mecha Clone with the standard archery arrows! With Jun injured and fainted, he decided to patch up Jun a bit before leaving her. To put it simply, he understands that Jun is in a fight greater than the Olympics. With that kind of understanding, I salute Jun's senior. He is aware of the responsibilities Jun faced and decides not to bother her about the Olympics.

Jun wakes up and after learning that her captain helped her thanks to some hints she saw in the battlefield such as his arrow and the handkerchief wrapped on her injured arm, she finally understands that her captain is now aware of her secret identity. Taking her captain's arrow, she proceeds to look for Messer and co. Lucky enough; she ends up discovering the Shark Kans upgrading Monster and co.! With that in mind, Jun did something seriously awesome. Using her captain's arrow, she aims on the Shark Kans' eyes and shoots it! What made it awesome is that the arrow hit the target, preventing Monster and co. to have their upgrades!

Now that Monster and co. are back in their normal state, it is time for the Biomen to fight to assemble and fight their enemies! Jun seriously stands out in the fight as she keeps on shooting a lot of targets, with Monster being the constant target of her attacks. If there is one thing this scene confirmed is that Monster is the comic relief character in this series. Since this is a Jun focused episode, the Bio Electron attack is something related to Jun! Called "Bio Electron Big Arrow", the move is basically a giant version of Jun's Bio Arrow with a small slit just for a single arrow to fit in. This slit will shoot an arrow to the target, in this case, Messer. For a big bow, I can't believe the arrow it shoots is kinda small.

After this one, Juo arrives to save his master, making me say to myself that Monster is indeed the show's comic relief character, with Juo as his partner in crime. I will not be surprised if we will have episodes involving these two are just purely comedic! What I am trying to say is I can't wait for these two to show up more in the series. Their chemistry in this episode is so fun to watch that I want more of it!

The giant fight in this episode is interesting. Having a flying enemy that the Bioman must pin to the ground is one interesting sight to see. How can the Bio Robo stop a flying enemy? Much to my surprise, the Bio Robo can actually jump really high just to reach the enemy! With one slash, they were able to put the enemy back to the ground before doing the finisher move. The episode ended with Jun calling out his captain as she understands that he knows their secret and wants to thank him for what he did. The best part about it is that Jun's captain leaves in a badass manner by sending in an arrow as a message to Jun. That he understands that she must protect our planet from the New Gear Empire.

At the end, this episode made me realize one thing; Jun is as awesome as Mika, or even greater than her. Prior to her first appearance, I said to myself that she can never be as awesome as Yellow Four in a lot of aspects. I mean, that woman is such a badass that she is as manly as the men of her team for crying out loud! Also, her rivalry with Farrah Cat is amazing. After Jun's introduction, she didn't make much a mark to me... till this episode came. She showed us why that she is more than just a replacement hero, that she is Jun Yabuki aka the current Yellow Four and we should deal with it. If only this episode takes place after her debut, then it will make a lot more impact in the series as a whole.
