JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 05 – The Reunion

JoJo and his allies finally reached Wind Knights Lot where Dio was spotted. Because of a kid who was hypnotized by Dio, our heroes finally meet him at the dark. As it turns out, he turned the fallen knights who were buried in the graveyard into zombies! What will happen with their latest encounter with Dio?

This is probably one of the best episodes this series has to offer yet since it keep me at the edge of my seat while watching it! One of the things that I liked about the series is the rivalry between JoJo and Dio and seeing them together again after they did some special training or activity to enhance their strength, it can cause someone to get a bit curious on what will happen once the two will fight.

Aside from JoJo's reunion with an old friend, we saw Zeppeli's reaction when he first saw the man. As I have expected, he's a bit surprised to see that the Stone Mask produced a villain as vile as Dio and it is his responsibility to stop him by fighting him with his Ripple techniques. Dio and Zeppeli's fight is fun to watch since it caught us a bit off guard when it comes to Dio's fighting skills since the last time we saw him, he was just sucking some maiden's blood and that's about it. We didn't see him train his body or do something special to enhance his skills as a fighter.

Much to my surprise, Dio learned how to control his body temperature and use it to his own advantage by freezing Zeppeli's arm so that he can't transmit Ripple energy in it. What's more, the said freezing technique did a quite a damage on Zeppeli as the said move not only caused a frostbite on Zeppeli's arm, but it also dealt quite an injury on Zeppeli's body internally.

Even if that is the case, Zeppeli continued on fighting Dio and because he has the upper hand, JoJo decided to help his mentor by contributing his Ripple energy to the second attack Zeppeli did. What I didn't expect is that it didn't do any damage against Dio and it gave me an impression that their resistance is really futile and that they should go home and let Dio turn the entire town into a town of zombies. Since the attack is really useless, they were blown by Dio's counter attack and since he feels like fighting them is quite boring, he summons Tarkus and Black Knight Bruford, Mary Stewart's faithful followers who were tricked by Queen Elizabeth I to their deaths.

The introduction of these two left quite an impression since for starters, Tarkus' height towered JoJo and second, Tarkus just carried a large boulder with a single finger! I mean, who would be surprised by that if I saw that sight and it didn't help that these two are heroes remembered by the Englishmen during their prime! While this is all happening, Speedwagon decided to help Zeppeli by using his warm body to defrost the frostbitten arm. One thing that I liked about it is that compared to the ones around him during that time, along with the kid, he is the only normal human and just did what he can do best as a normal human.

JoJo's fight with Bruford is really interesting since JoJo tried to release his Ripple energy in any means possible and that there are some scenes Bruford has the upper hand, giving JoJo quite a hard time to defeat him since he has three movable limbs in his body, namely his two arms and his really flexible and strong hair. Seeing JoJo really cornered by Bruford, it is hard not to support the guy and you wish that he can escape Bruford's strong hair. At the end, JoJo fell on a river, which leads us to an interesting fight between the two.

Underwater, both heroes have a disadvantage since JoJo needs to breath for him to harness the Ripple energy around him while Bruford is using a heavy armor for protection, something that will give you a hard time to rise out of the water. If there is one thing I didn't expect is JoJo's notebook since instead of getting out of the water, he decided to dive a bit deeper to find a place where there is a storage of air since the town is also a mining town and he notes that there are some small cave-in caverns filled with unreleased oxygen... and he is right and he found one and used it to fight Bruford, which ended the episode.
