Gen Urobuchi Talks About Why Kamen Riders are Monsters & Love for Rider Fights


Kamen Rider Gaim head writer Gen Urobuchi talked about the show in the quarterly magazine called The Kamen Rider.

In the magazine he revealed that when he accepted the job, most of the concepts of the show are already set in stone such as the lock and fruit gimmick and the Sengoku theme. He also revealed that the Sengoku war aspect of the show will feature the classic lord and retainer style but as a Rider Battle.


He revealed that he loves Kamen Rider Ryuki and revealed that " The thing is I did kind of want every Rider to get along, but I decided not to." In addition, he finds that Riders fighting each other as something natural and pointed out that the original Kamen Rider fought Shocker Riders and is technically a Shocker monster.

"It's really all up to the user, how they use that power. It was basically the Hopper Monster fighting the Spider Monster. In other words, Kamen Riders are monsters, and the Rider Battle is actually a Monster Battle." Urobuchi said.


He also revealed that he thinks of the toys in mind when writing the scripts and why the show is fast paced. In addition, he revealed that he made Kamen Rider Gridon a lovely character.

He also talked about the actors and their acting abilities, as well as how their acting even made the scenes he imagined even better. He even stated that his scripts are given a new life in tokusatsu that he can't see in anime.


He also revealed that the opening scene of the first episode is a light taste on what's to come in the second half of the show and even states that the exact scene we saw as a potential future. Lastly, he want the show to be a "guideline for kids growing up".
