Kamen Rider Wizard 27 – Sisters

Mayu's past with her sister, Misa is finally revealed. With that in mind, it seems that Medusa is planning something related to Mayu and Sora wants to be part of it. What is this plan and can Haruto and Kousuke protect the Gate from the Phantoms?

Before talking about the main content of this episode, the Gate from the previous episode is basically ignored during the course of this episode as they put more focus on Mayu and Misa. I have no problems about it since the Gate in this episode was still targeted by the Phantoms, but to be honest, the victim of the arc is not worth mentioning in this review aside that our heroes did a great job in protecting him from Gremlin.

The flashback scene showed us how close is Mayu and Misa are back then. To put it simply, Misa cared so much about her sister that she gave her a keychain that will remind her about them once she studies abroad. Their relationship is kinda sweet and I wish they can expand it a bit more because I want to see more of their interaction as siblings. Also, until now, I still can't figure out how they were able to create twins from a single actor. But hey, I can just Google how they were able to film it if I have the time right?

The next day, the Gate is finally moving to the antique shop when all of a sudden, a horde of Ghouls lead by Gremlin appeared. Thankfully, Kousuke is there to protect the Gate. I have nothing much to say about the fights since there is nothing worth talking about it. After Mayu leaves because she needs to go back to her dorm, Haruto received a call about Gremlin attacking the Gate. Haruto arrived just in time to fight Gremlin and much to my surprise; Gremlin can actually handle two wizards fighting him at the same time!

But here's the clincher, Gremlin is basically a distraction because as it turns out, Mayu was texted by Medusa to meet her in their old house! As it turns out, Mayu is also a Gate. Well, all that foreshadowing makes sense! I mean, they keep on pointing out that her keychain is giving her hope in the previous episode; also her twin sister just happened to be Medusa! It kinda makes sense if Mayu is also a Gate since they are inside the same womb for 9 months. Naturally, Medusa will put her into despair, but that is not what interest me, what interest me is Cerberus watching this happen. It can only mean one thing; the White Wizard is interested in Mayu or what will happen in this meeting between sisters.

Haruto arrived just in time to witness Mayu's fall to despair. To make matters worse for Haruto, Medusa sucked the remaining mana he had, making him useless in this predicament. Speaking of mana, where's Kousuke when this is all happening? He's with the Gate and he is hopeful that Haruto can save Mayu from despair. Thinking about it, Rinko is not around; it might be too late for Haruto and might even witness the birth of a new Phantom. But that is not what they witnessed; instead they witnessed the birth of a new wizard, or should I say, witch.

The reason why Mayu was able to hold on is wonderful. She realized that the one who is bringing her despair is not her sister, but a monster wearing the skins of her sister. So technically, the final words her real sister said are giving her hope, and not the keychain that she gave. This is when the White Wizard comes in as he offered Mayu the chance to become a witch to fight the Phantom that killed her family. If there is one thing this scene showed us, it would be how the White Wizard single handedly defeated Medusa because of his Explosion Ring. Wow, Haruto is still weaker than the White Wizard even with all the upgrades he had.

Mayu accepts the offer coming from the White Wizard and instead of receiving just a belt and a ring, the White Wizard left with Mayu. The big question is when we will see her again? Will she return in the show as a regular witch hero or only appear for a handful of episodes? Before ending the episode, Golem is probably, the most useless PlaMonster familiar as his job is to detect what items that gives the Gate hope. It's useless because Haruto and the rest don't know what his purpose is! Hopefully, they can make him more useful in later episodes.
