Mirai Sentai Timeranger 10 – Escape to the Future

Tac detected a time-space pulse somewhere and Tatsuya and Ayase are assigned to check this pulse. The two opened a box that contained the pulse, which destroyed their Chrono Changers. Tatsuya tried to contact the other Timerangers with his phone but it's out of service thanks to an unpaid bill. Turns out that the pulse was set up by a mercenary named Ogur since he wants any of the Timeranger's head for a bounty!

The episode continued what was concluded in the previous episode since it focused a lot on Ayase's secret that he hides from the team, which was one of the reasons why he didn't pursue his dream as a race car driver. One thing I noticed in this episode is Tatsuya's concern on Ayase since every time he tries to talk to him about it, Ayase just ignores it. What made Tatsuya more concerned is how Ayase is willing to throw his life for other like he doesn't care if he dies. With that in mind, you can easily hypothesize that Ayase is just wants to die as fast as possible by being a Timeranger and he just wants to die in combat. It became clear later in the episode.

Ogur's hunt of Tatsuya and Ayase is really fun to watch just like every other bounty hunter chases. What made it more fun is the fact that they can't transform, lessening the chance of their survival in the situation they faced right now. What's impressive about it is that Ogur knows the area very well that he can easily hunt the Timerangers wherever they will go within the perimeter. At the end, they were captured, Tatsuya was injured and they are locked in a Cold Storage facility... which bothered me for a bit but what the heck, it's for the sake of drama!

Inside the facility, we saw more of Ayase's "suicidal" tendencies as he gave his jacket to Tatsuya to keep him warm only to refuse it at the end. Since they are alone and Ayase has no chance to divert the issue, Tatsuya finally asked Ayase what is wrong with him. As it turns out, Ayase has some disease called Osiris Syndrome that can only be acquired by intense magnetic radiation from space and once you have one, your heart will stop beating for the next year or two. And by the looks of it, this disease has no cure in the future, no wonder he kinda looked like hopeless in the earlier episodes of the series till Tatsuya came along and gave him hope.

His hopelessness and how he ended up becoming a Timeranger is properly expanded in this episode. His reaction that he is basically has two or less than a year to live is something I expected but since that this is a kid's show, they need to water it down and we have Ayase picking up fights almost every day and if I look at it in a much deeper sense, it feels like he is really desperate to die just to end the burden he is carrying. But because of those beat ups he faced every day, this is when realized that he needs to live. I find it ironic at first since it kinda looked like he wants to die as fast as possible but only to end up realizing the value of life.

This irony made much more sense after Ayase explained the reason why he always put himself to danger, he wants to protect others since he himself is on the verge of death and he wants to protect them from it. Tatsuya's response on Ayase's suffering is something I didn't expect to see. To review, he is the one who told Ayase that we can change the future but as it turns out, he just said it on impulse. His realization on how fragile human life is made the man realize that saying such fairy words to a guy who will die anytime soon is something stupid. Even if that is the case, Ayase stay firmed on what Tatsuya said and believes that someday they can change the future as Timerangers; I this exchange between the two of them.

Speaking of life and death, thankfully, Yuri asked Sion to pay Tatsuya's phone bill and Sion is able to save the two from the Cold Storage facility and fixed the Chrono Changers. With their Chrono Changers fixed, it's time to fight Ogur and as expected, they were able to put him to cyrostasis but what I didn't expect is that the giant battle last for less than 2 minutes, something that rarely happens in a Super Sentai series. Guess the drama with Ayase's disease took most of the focus in this episode and I am fine with it. At the end, Yuri asked Tatsuya to pay his phone bill that Sion paid and starts begging his teammates to help him pay the bill. Poor Tatsuya, guess he needs to work harder from now on then!
