Kyoryuu Sentai Zyuranger 48 – The Dark Son

The Zyurangers is having a hard time finishing the DoraTalos thanks to Cai using the kids he kidnapped as his co-pilots. Desperate, our heroes have no choice but to summon Dragon Caesar and later, King Brachion. But before they can summon King Brachion, Barza told them the importance of the dinosaur eggs inside King Brachion. What's the true importance of these eggs and how did Bandora's son ended up in his mother's business?

The series continues to become more intense as Cai keeps giving the Zyurangers a hard time. Aside that the DoraTalos is one impressive mecha, another thing that I like about it is that Cai can use his psychic powers in the DoraTalos and amplify its strength, allowing him to take control on the GouRyuJin and Guardian Beast Tyrannozaurus with his mind! More on the DoraTalos being one impressive mecha, it has a lot of missiles and my personal favorite, rocket hands that has a connecting chain!

Desperate, Geki decides to summon King Brachion only to be stopped by Barza who then reveals the importance of these eggs! To sum up everything, once the eggs are destroyed, it will be end of the dinosaur race and the end of the Guardian Beasts! Finally, the side plot about the dinosaur eggs makes a lot more sense now! No wonder Bandora wants to destroy these eggs if she has the chance to destroy it! Even if that's the case, King Brachion appears to save the Zyurangers and wants to help the Zyurangers. What made his appearance interesting is that it's the will of the Guardian Beasts that formed the Ultimate DaiZyuJin, not because Geki and the rest decided to do it.

The Ultimate DaiZyuJin destroys the DoraTalos and at the same time, saved the kids thanks to the Ultimate DaiZyuJin having common sense of not hitting the cockpit but only hitting the body of the mecha. This way of destroying mecha reminded me a lot on how Kio Asuno of Mobile Suit Gundam AGE defeat enemy Mobile Suits, instead of destroying the entire suit, he just rips the heads so that the pilot inside those heads are safe. Compared to Kio, Ultimate DaiZyuJin's move to not destroy the head makes a lot more sense compared to Kio's mobile suit head ripping.

The kids are safe and Cai had a chance to escape. They still have a lot of opportunities to defeat Cai in some other day so it’s fine if they will let Cai escape for now. Much to my surprise, the DoraTalos is just the first phase of Bandora's plan in defeating the Zyurangers and to conquer Earth! As it turns out, she turned one piece of earth into quicksand that "killed" King Brachion. The first thing that came to my mind is the time when the Guardian Beasts are destroyed by Bandora once by throwing them in a pit of boiling hot lava. As it turns out, lava contains Gaiatron, a material that will strengthen and heal the Guardian Beasts. Instead of getting stunned, I am quite confident that King Brachion is still alive; he is just swimming in lava to heal himself.

As expected, the Zyurangers didn't take King Brachion's sinking lightly as Sovereign DaiZyuJin is trying to pull Ultimate DaiZyuJin out of the quicksand. But nope, King Brachion is completely sunk in the quicksand. Once again, our heroes didn't take these lightly since sooner or later; it will also mark the end of the Guardian Beasts. They returned to shrine and got a quick review on the key points of this series, which I think I don't need to write again. Then they earn more about Cai, the boy that our heroes fought earlier in the episode and why he is so important in the series.

To sum up everything, Cai is a prince and her mother is the Queen of Dahl also known as Bandora. At an early age, he is quite despicable since he destroys dinosaur eggs and is insensitive about the feelings of the mother dinosaur. It is because of attitude towards dinosaurs that caused him his life. His mother, the queen sold her soul to Great Satan for two things: to wipe out the dinosaurs that cause the death of his foolish son and to revive her dead son. It is because of a mother's love that causes all of this and I like this kind of twist. It added the depth on Bandora's character and made her more relatable to the parents who are watching this show with their kids.

Speaking of Bandora, I still find it weird that her son is still cold towards his mother. Cai just wants straight to the business of destroying the dinosaurs and that's about it. He hates the mushy stuff with her mother and prefers her to begin the incantation to summon Great Satan. I'll skip on Satoshi's part because it only tells us that Geki is still hopeful that King Brachion is still alive. That's the spirit, Geki!

Before Geki and Mei return to the shrine, Bandora's incantation finally bears fruit as Great Satan finally arrives on planet Earth, stronger compared to the first time the Ultimate DaiZyuJin defeated him a couple of episodes ago. The first thing that I notice is that he has more red lines in his face and that his attacks are stronger even though he is just doing the same moves he is doing every time he makes an appearance in the series. He occasionally laughs and makes faces but that's about it. He is still that floating demon face with a funky hairdo.

Because of his appearance, Bandora then summons the new and improve DoraTalos, wow, it took them a few hours in the show just to give it upgrades. The only noticeable difference between the first DoraTalos and the second DoraTalos is that the second DoraTalos has two more horns and that's it, will talk about its new moves once I get on to the robot battle. The Zyurangers then jump into the DaiZyuJin without transforming and for just 30 seconds, we see them piloting the DaiZyuJin in their regular attires before transforming into the Zyurangers. I am disappointment with it because it will be cooler if we see them just pilot the mecha in their regular attires.

The fight between DaiZyuJin and DoraTalos is really amazing. It pushed DaiZyuJin to its limits that it suddenly remembers that it has two mounted cannons on its back that he used to fire on the DoraTalos! As for the DoraTalos, it has sleeve swords and for me, if your robot has sleeve swords, it means that it is one awesome mecha. I mean, swords popping out of your sleeves? That's really cool. What made it more impressive is Cai's combo with it, he uses the rocket punch chains to restrain DaiZyuJin then cut its arm! With only a single arm left and King Brachion down, can the Zyurangers beat DoraTalos and Great Satan?

One final note, they were able to establish that only the Ultimate DaiZyuJin can beat Great Satan. In short, I will be disappointed if GouRyuJin or DaiZyuJin beat Great Satan in the last two episodes of the series.
