Mirai Sentai Timeranger 09 – The Don's Dilemma

And suddenly, the mainstream media.

After 9 episodes (or 9 weeks), the media is starting to notice the Londarz family and the Timerangers and our heroes are starting to become more cautious about their new found fame. Meanwhile, Don Dornheiro's old friend, Arnuld K the crooked cop was thawed out of cyrostasis and wants to help an old friend... and Lira and Gien hates this guy for being too close to the Don.

There are a couple of things that was revealed in this episode, such as Ayase hasn't got his license, which I find ironic since the guy is a former race car driver! Also, we got a glimpse on how the other Timerangers do their regular jobs as part of Tomorrow Research. Back to Ayase, I find it really funny that the guy intentionally made some mistakes in his driver's exam just to show his instructor that he barely had practice driving a car! But his driving is not what interest me, but what happened after it.

Arnuld compared to the rest of the prisoners of the Londarz detention facility, he is just a crooked cop. He extorts money from civilians and thinks highly of himself since hey, he is a cop and he is the law or should I say, was the law since he was arrested for cooperating with a mafia boss and his corruption. In terms of weaponry, he has the standard equipment of every police officer, so yeah; he is basically a monster cop.

While the Timerangers are busy with Arnuld, a female journalist is taking photos of the Timerangers fighting and by the look and feel of the journalist, she is the annoying, intrepid type, the one who will try to dig up every single information about the subject that leads to over information about it and by the looks of it, she will be a recurring character in the series.

Back to the Londarz family, Arnuld's attitude is getting to the nerves of Lira and Gien and it seems they want to kill the man. This was when we saw more of the Don's other side. For most of the time, we always see him smoke his tobacco and just stay relaxed. This was one of those moments that he had a hard time in terms of making a decision. Will he side with his allies who are quite helpful for the long run or side with his best friend whose been there for him since they are kids? His dilemma led to something interesting as he gave his best bud a new gun, which I don't find weird until later.

During Arnuld's second encounter with the Timerangers, aside from seeing more of those stop motion fights (if that's the term), the new gun that he attached exploded after he pulled the trigger! At first I was suspecting that Gien is responsible with this but after his chat with Lira that he didn't do it, it made conclude that the Don was responsible for it and I was right, he is indeed the mastermind! The Don's reasoning on why he decided to sacrifice his friend is really understandable.

Arnuld is just a crooked cop, he can't do a lot to the family in the long run and that he is the cause of strife the family is experiencing right now. In short, it is best for him to put into cyrostasis. Even if that's the case, the Don still cares for Arnuld as he rather see him put in cyrostasis rather than see him dead in the hands of his men. Remember that a person is not dead in cyrostasis but just compressed into a small figure that is obviously their version of cold sleep. To put it simply, he still cares for his friend's life.

The giant battle in this episode is really amazing as we see Time Robo Beta for more than a few minutes and see more of this gun slinging formation in action while fighting Arnuld. Because of this, I was expecting that the Beta formation has its own cyrostasis finisher but nope, the Alpha formation is the one who performed the finisher. After they sealed Arnuld in a container, the same journalist from earlier continues to bother the Timerangers about who they are and what they do. As expected, they refuse to give a comment about it since hey, the Timerangers originally appeared in that timeline in the first place and adding more info about them might disrupt the space and time continuum!

Aside from the media, the government, to be exact, the police are aware of the Timeranger's existence, especially after the media started speculating that the Timerangers are the government's secret police. I was surprised to the reply of the police that they are not associated with the Timerangers since most cops that I know in mass media will either try to cover the story up or claim that these masked heroes are working for them. As for the rest of the Timerangers, they are fine with the media thinking that they are some secret police. At least it will lessen the misunderstanding with the general public! Funny, Kamen Rider Kuuga was airing alongside with Timeranger during that time had some police involvement.

The episode ends with the Timerangers celebrating Ayase finally having his own license but something odd is happening to Ayase, he started to feel chest pains. What is the meaning of these chest pains?
