New Dragon Ball Z Film Slated Next March
This year's 33rd issue of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine reveals that the upcoming Dragon Ball Z anime film will be slated for March 30, 2013 release. The adventure manga author Akira Toriyama will be deeply involved in the production.
The film will be directed by Masahiro Hosoda (Dragon Ball Z episode director) at Toei and written by Yuusuke Watanabe (20th Century Boys, Gantz), with Tadayoshi Yamamuro (Dragon Ball Movie 4: The Path to Power, Beet the Vandel Buster) acting as the lead animation director.
Akira Toriyama, who is involved in the production of the anime film as early as the screenwriting stages, comments that the film will retain the atmosphere of the original while adding small amounts of "modern flavor."
The announcement lists Fox International Productions Japan as a member of the film's production committee, alongside Shueisha, Fuji TV, Toei Animation, Bandai, and Bandai Namco Games. This will be the 18th Dragon Ball anime film and the first film after 17 years since “The Path to Ultimate Power” in 1996.
